Laid Back-Even “Droopy” thoughts for the week, and please help me?

As I stated last week I AM ASKING YOU TO HELP ME THIS MONTH! I am trying to help others (and even possibly myself) by raising funds for prostate cancer research.
October has become Breast Cancer Pink Month. November is now becoming Movember Prostate Health Month.

Help me raise monies? I am growing out my mustache for Mo’Vember to raise monies for Prostate Cancer Research. Any amount will help! Even if it is 1 dollar in support of that 1 finger I hope to never experience!

I will be doing “The Trucker” (attached a pixx of progress). Please consider helping me?
This video explains more: (You MAY recognize one local “celebrity?”)

Think it doesn’t affect “everyone?”
Publicist confirms Montgomery Gentry star Eddie Montgomery has prostate cancer
ASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A publicist for Eddie Montgomery says the Montgomery Gentry star has prostate cancer.
An e-mailed statement from the Kentucky native says he will undergo surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in December.
Montgomery asks supporters to keep him and his family in their prayers. And he promises to be “back in January and ready to rock for all the fans!”

Residents use dance to support troops

A love of dance and a concern for troops serving abroad have led a group of central Ohio women to plan a fundraiser with two goals: creating care packages for soldiers and raising awareness about the performing arts.

“We came together and created this group to raise two awarenesses,” said Westerville resident Jodi Wheeler, founder of Adopt A Soldier Organization.

Along with three friends who also are dancers, Wheeler organized HiP HOP ADOPT!, a variety show scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at Villa Milano, 1630 Schrock Road.

Those attending will watch a three-act variety show, followed by dancing to DVDJ J-Money.

For a $15 charge, attendees will be able to adopt a member of the military who is currently serving abroad. The care packages will be accompanied by thank-you notes written by the sponsors.

“A ‘thank you’ goes a long way,” Wheeler said. “The fact that it’s handwritten instead of computerized makes it more personalized.”

Sponsors will be able to choose which branch of the military they would like to send their care package to, and Adopt A Soldier Organization will send the packages sponsored for each branch to individual units that are on active duty.

Wheeler said she, Gahanna resident Joy Estaris, Columbus resident Denise Bloomfield and Dublin resident Heidi May created HiP HOP ADOPT!. The four women all are active in performing arts organizations in the community and have seen how the groups have been affected by the down economy, Wheeler said.

They combined their desire to raise awareness about local performing arts with a desire to help members of the military.

“We have friends who have gone overseas and they’ve come back and talked about missing home,” Wheeler said. “We tried to put together a fundraiser to help soldiers out.”

The event will raise awareness about performing arts groups in central Ohio through the show itself, Wheeler said, because the performers are all involved in such groups. Nonprofit arts groups also were invited to place free advertisements in the event’s program, she said.

The four women have worked for the last two months to organize the fundraiser. Wheeler said they are unsure of how many people will attend.

“We figure if one person shows up, that’s a care package that goes over, so it’s a success,” she said. “We’re ready for whatever amount shows up.”

Even with the uncertainty over how this year’s show will go over, Wheeler said she and her colleagues already plan to go ahead with another fundraiser next year, because they know 3,400 military members are scheduled to be deployed from Columbus next year.

“We have plans for next year,” Wheeler said. “We’ll start planning the program Jan. 1.”

HAVE YOU EVER sat back and just thought of where you have been, what you have done, and all the in between. Kinda like a quick dial on the TiVo control. We have all had those moments. Some are continuing dramas or sitcoms that get us in an out of everyday life, others are like cancelled prime time shows. No matter how good they were, they just are not right at that moment. Sometime they are reincarnated in another form or another time-just like relationships/friendships/jobs, etc.

Many times we sit around and watch tv “just cause it is on.” Do we do that with life also. Just turn it on and switch from channel to channel just cause it is there?

Maybe we should find that remote and throw it away…maybe force ourselves to tune into something and make it worthwhile. On TV…and in life.

So life IS like tv, full of reruns-some timeless and worth watching over and over (memories), and others are previews that will never be (broken dreams?) . Believe it or not life just like TV does have fast forward, and rewind. But we only appreciate either well after it is too late.

I do know while my stories are much like Forrest Gump (they are so out there no one believes, but so based in truth you can’t help but wonder-and YES my stories are so absurd they are true! I CAN’T make this crap up). But my daily life, if it were to be based on a tv show? It would be a cartoon. A classic cartoon that plays itself over and over on re-run. I would be a “Droopy” cartoon.

Droopy is a short, “droopy bug eyed” hound dog, that is very slow and well…not very bright, but, gets himself in a some great adventures and looks after others in his very monotone voice, and slow moving life. That life, however, is fast tempo when he states “ya know what? That makes me mad.” When this happens he is not himself and the remainder of the cartoon is a fast action flick. So yea I can kinda relate to the ‘Ole Mountie’ Droopy. The dog you can’t figure out…

Speaking of “TV.” it has been all over the news both locally and nationally. I want to commend the Knox County Sheriffs office and all the other officials and volunteers who worked so hard to save a young life and to bring closure to a horrific and tragic story. Thoughts and prayers to ALL the residents in Apple Valley, Howard, and Mount Vernon Ohio. Please take a moment if reading to say a prayer for those murdered Stephanie Sprang, Tina Herrmann, and little Kody Maynard; as well as, healing and a safe secure future for Sarah Maynard. AND JUSTICE TO BE GIVEN TO THE PERP, Matt Hoffman.

Ryan Reynolds Named Sexiest Man Alive By People Magazine

The actor, whose chiseled handsomeness and hot bod earned him the title role in the upcoming “Green Lantern” (and have also been making our hearts go pitter-pat since he spent five seconds onscreen in an “X-Files” episode back in 1996), has been officially bestowed with the magazine’s annually-awarded title of Sexiest Man Alive. He’s the 25th hottie to make the list (which debuted by honoring Mel Gibson back in 1985…and the less said about that, the better.)

Ryan’s title comes at a good time, with wife Scarlett Johansson having just been named GQ’s Babe of the Year. The Sexiest Man Alive and the Babe of the Year, together forever? How appropriate! But according to Ryan, it won’t change much around their household. He tells People, “Now it’s going to be, ‘Sexiest man, take out the garbage.'”

Although shortly thereafter, he admits, “That does sound better.”

The Beatles come to iTunes at last

The entire Beatles’ catalogue is now in iTunes.

At long last, the works of the Beatles are available in iTunes.

The digital content is exclusive to iTunes, a representative of The Beatles’ record company, EMI, told CNET. The exact length of that deal is unknown, but it will expire sometime next year.

As of now, the iconic band’s entire catalog can be purchased in Apple’s iTunes Store. Each album comes with iTunes LP, which features additional content including lyrics, photos, and album art. A digital version of the Fab Four’s entire body of work is also available for download for $149, and that comes with exclusive access to a video of the band’s first U.S. concert, “Live at the Washington Coliseum, 1964.” Single albums are priced at $12.99, double albums at $19.99. Songs will cost $1.29 each.

This is a personal victory for Apple CEO Steve Jobs, as The Beatles were one of the most prominent holdouts from his online music empire. Apple had tried for years to acquire rights to The Beatles’ catalog.

“We love the Beatles and are honored and thrilled to welcome them to iTunes,” said Jobs in a press release today. “It has been a long and winding road to get here. Thanks to the Beatles and EMI, we are now realizing a dream we’ve had since we launched iTunes ten years ago.”

Apple hyped up the announcement over the last 24 hours with a splash page on its Web site promising that “tomorrow is just another day. That you’ll never forget.”

After several hours of tech news sites buzzing about what the company could have up its sleeve, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple would finally announce an agreement to offer The Beatles’ music.

In a press release from Apple, and EMI, each of the surviving Beatles members or a representative was quoted about the news.

Paul McCartney: “We’re really excited to bring the Beatles’ music to iTunes. It’s fantastic to see the songs we originally released on vinyl receive as much love in the digital world as they did the first time around.”

Ringo Starr: “I am particularly glad to no longer be asked when the Beatles are coming to iTunes. At last, if you want it–you can get it now–The Beatles from Liverpool to now! Peace and Love, Ringo.”

Yoko Ono Lennon: “In the joyful spirit of Give Peace A Chance, I think it is so appropriate that we are doing this on John’s 70th birthday year.”

Olivia Harrison: “The Beatles on iTunes–Bravo!”

The release of the band’s music online marks the end of a long journey for both EMI and Apple. The two battled in courtrooms for years over a trademark dispute: Apple Corps, The Beatles’ record company, versus Apple Inc.

In 1991, the two updated a 10-year-old agreement regarding how each of them would be allowed to use its trademarks. Apple Inc. (at the time known as Apple Computer Inc.) paid Apple Corps $27 million and agreed not to enter the music distribution business under the Apple name and logo. Apple Corps later said that the computer maker broke that agreement by opening the iTunes Store, and sued in 2003. Apple Computer eventually emerged victorious when a U.K. judge ruled that it was not in violation of the agreement because it was selling prerecorded content, not original music under the logo.

The dispute was officially resolved in 2007, when a new deal replaced the 1991 agreement, which prohibited Apple Inc. from distributing music through physical media such as CDs and cassette tapes.

I’ll Vote for him!
Donald Trump: Presidential Run ‘Could be Fun,’ Decision by June

Real estate tycoon, reality show star and now a presidential candidate? Donald Trump told me he is seriously considering a run for the White House and will make a final decision by June.

“I am thinking about things. And I’m looking at this country, George, and what’s happened in terms of respect. And the respect for this country is just not there,” he said. “I have many people from China that I do business with, they laugh at us. They feel we’re fools. And almost being led by fools. And they can’t believe what they’re getting away with.”

The United States is a “whipping post” right now and China is “getting away with murder” because it’s manipulating its currency, he said. But he claims all of that would stop under a Trump Administration. He would start by tackling the price of oil and taxing China — even though they are our bankers Trump insists we still have control.

“I don’t think the bankers have the cards. I think you have the cards. And in this case, in– in the case of China, you literally are taxing China, you’ll pay off your debt very quickly. And don’t forget, you’re talking about trade war, right,” he said.

“When you have billions in dollars in deficits with a country, those are the trade wars I like. You don’t have to do business with China. You don’t have to do business with other countries,” Trump told me.

Trump would run as a Republican – although he refused to tell me his stance on abortion– and didn’t rule out a self-funded campaign. He said he could “very easily” spend more than $200 million on it.

This isn’t the first time Trump has made noise about a presidential run – in 1999 he set up an exploratory committee but told me he never really wanted to run that year.

So how serious is “The Donald” about a presidential campaign now?

If his poll numbers hold up and if “the country continues to be taken advantage of by the world” then he said he would run.

“Would I rather be in the race or not be in the race? I can tell you, I love what I’m doing. I’m having a great time what I’m doing. I’d rather not be in the race,” he said.

“But it could be fun because I’d like to see some positive things happen for the country… I’m going to make a decision probably by June,” Trump added.

One of his potential GOP challengers is Sarah Palin – who recently told Barbara Walters she could defeat President Obama. Trump warned that Palin would be a formidable candidate.

“She’s very interesting. And don’t underestimate her. I mean, I see what she does. Do not underestimate Sarah Palin,” he told me.

“I would take her on. I like her, but I’d take her on,” he said.

So should Trump throw his hat in the ring? Well, tell him yourself. His special counsel, Michael Cohen, started a “Should Trump Run” website — without his bosses knowledge – where you can vote for Trump to either jump into the 2012 race or stay on the sidelines.

Groups aim to line up some cheer for troops

A rush of people want to help military families for the holidays – often too late to get the job done.

A person wants to send a package to an unknown service member overseas – but doesn’t realize it has to be sent to a specific soldier at a specific address.

A family wants to “adopt” another for Christmas – but it takes time to match up those families.

It’s mid-November. Kelley Granzow of Reynoldsburg already has the addresses and names of 800 troops who would like holiday mail. She just needs volunteers willing to send it.

Operation Homefront Ohio, based in Worthington, has a list of 48 military families who need a Christmas meal and presents for their children. An additional 100 families will be on the list before long. It wouldn’t hurt to line up support for them now.

“People aren’t quite thinking about Christmas yet,” said Rebecca Drobnick, president of Operation Homefront Ohio. “I can’t tell you how many people call in at the last minute.”

Granzow and Drobnick have been on the job for years in central Ohio. A new organization, called Adopt A Soldier, is also ramping up activities before Thanksgiving, hoping to raise money to send packages to deployed Ohio National Guard members.

Granzow, who works in customer service for US Airways at Port Columbus, first started collecting the names and addresses in 2003. She saw troops shipping out and wanted to do something.

She started with a few names. The troops who got mail from her passed her name to others. Soon she had the names of so many service members that she needed help, so Port Columbus put up trees with name-and-address cards for passengers to take with them.

The 800 names she has this year are a record. She needs even more help.

“Some of those guys are on their third and fourth deployments,” she said.

Drobnick’s Operation Homefront has a number of holiday projects, including buying a turkey at Kroger for a military family and donating toys through Dollar Tree stores.

Its Adopt-A-Family program takes more time. Homefront asks that a holiday meal and small presents be provided for qualifying families. Families qualify if a member has a rank of E-6 – the equivalent of an Army staff sergeant – or lower.

The separate but similarly named Adopt A Soldier is new. Its first fundraiser is 7p.m. Friday at Villa Milano, 1630 Schrock Rd., and costs $15 at the door. Every $15 collected translates to a package full of baby wipes, lip balm and other items for a deployed Army National Guard member.

A variety show, including dance performances, begins at 8 p.m.

Timing is important, and the organizers of Adopt A Soldier will try to have the packages delivered before Christmas, said Jodi Wheeler, the program’s director.

But it’s all right if they don’t.

“If it gets there after, then that’s great, too,” she said.

Blue Fridays.
Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing blue every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the ‘silent majority’ We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday — and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something blue. By word of mouth, press, TV — let’s make the United States on every Friday a sea of blue much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.

If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances,
coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in BLUE and it will let our troops know the once ‘silent’ majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on. The first thing a soldier says when asked ‘What can we do to make things better for you?’ is. ‘We need your support and your prayers.’ Let’s get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something blue every Friday.

Cookie monster!
Dopey pol calls the cops on cupcake-selling kids

This is the police. Step away from the cupcakes!
A half-baked town-board member called the cops on a pair of pint-size entrepreneurs for selling their cookies and cupcakes in a Westchester park without a permit.

“A lot of people go to eat lunch in the park,” one of the bummed-out baker boys, Andrew DeMarchis (pictured), 13, of Chappaqua, told The Post yesterday.

“So everybody bought dessert from us. When the cop first pulled up, I didn’t know he was there for us. Then he walked up to us. I didn’t know we needed a permit. I was more shocked than scared.”

Andrew said he called his mother, Suzanne, who had helped make the duo’s delicious oatmeal and chocolate-chip cookies on a stick.

“The police officer was extremely pleasant. He said he was sorry to have to do this but that he was following up on a report filed over the phone by a town-board member,” Mrs. DeMarchis told The Journal News.

Andrew’s pal, Kevin Graff, 13, “was so upset he was crying all the whole way home,” she said. “He was worried if he was going to get arrested or have a criminal record.”

New Castle board member Michael Wolfensohn — who had sicced the cops on the boys last month — refused to comment to The Post yesterday when reached at his home.

A town official said Wolfensohn has received harassing e-mails and phone calls since residents learned of his cupcake stance.

He had earlier told The Journal News: “All vendors selling on town property have to have a license, whether it’s boys selling baked goods or a hot-dog vendor.
“In hindsight, maybe I should have [just called the boys’ parents], but I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to do that,” Wolfensohn said. “The police are trained to deal with these sorts of issues.”

The town’s peddling-permit fees can run up to $350 for two hours, although charities are typically given a break.

Andrew and his buddy Kevin said they were selling their baked goodies in front of a playground at Gedney Park just to earn some spending money.

Andrew said they sold brownies, cookies and cupcakes for $1 each, earning $129 on their first day and $30 on their second before the cops shut them down.

“I’m proud of Andrew,” his mother said. “I think he handled himself well. I was also impressed with his business. It was creative, and they weren’t doing anything wrong.”

Remember the kid who was told by school officials he could not have an American Flag on his bike for fear of “Racial Tensions?”

Denair Middle School Student Told Not To Fly American Flag On His Bike

DENAIR, CALIF. — A 13-year-old boy was told to take an American flag off of his bike by school officials to avoid “racial tension,” according to media reports.

Middle School student Cody Alicea was told to remove the small American flag on the back of his bike that he flew in honor of his grandfather, who is a veteran. Denair Unified School District Superintendent Edward Parraz said the district reacted after several students complained.

“[The] First Amendment is important,” Parraz said. “We want the kids to respect it, understand it and with that comes responsibility.”

Parraz told KCRA-TV in Sacramento, Calif. that racial tensions had swelled in the school last year after the Cinco de Mayo holiday.

“Our Hispanic kids will bring their Mexican falgs and they’ll display it, and then of course the kids would do the American flag situation, and it does cause kind of a racial tension, which we don’t really want,” Parraz told the TV station. “We want them to appreciate their cultures.”

Cody told the TV station that he doesn’t understand the decision.

“In this country, we’re supposed to be free,” the middle school student said. “I should be able to wave my flag where I want to, and they’re telling me I can’t.”

Cody told the station that he folds the flag up and puts it in his backpack during school.

I may be a conservative, and MAY have supported Governor Palin, BUT, this whole ABC scandal with excessive voting is ABSURD! The show Dancing with the Stars is a TV show about “B and C” Celebrities DANCING! I am not going say if Bristol is a good dancer (I don’t know), but I will tell ya I am appalled a political group (or a sub group associated with a political movement) has hijacked the phone lined to vote for “one of their own.” To award young Palin a trophy based on popularity and not on performance is no different than the welfare and other social program handouts many within certain movements are against. COME ON IF YOUNG PALIN IS THE BEST DANCER, LET HER DO IT THE OLD FASHION WAY…earn it! Haven’t we as a country learned about voting someone just based on popularity and no merit?

Wal-Mart vs. The Morons

1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target +Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people, is the world’s largest private employer, and most speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger and Safeway combined, and keep
in mind they did this in only fifteen years.

8. During this same period, 31 big supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 2,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had five years ago.

11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at Wal-Mart stores. (Earth’s population is approximately 6.5 Billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within fifteen miles of a Wal-Mart.

13. Wal-Mart has gross sales that total more than the total revenue of all the countries in the world, except 6.

You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to fix the economy.

This should be read and understood by all Americans Democrats, Republicans, EVERYONE!! To the President and all 535 voting members of the Legislature, both parties. It is now official. You are ALL inept morons: a. The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. You have had 234 years to get it right and it is broke. b. Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to get it right and it is broke. c. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get it right and it is broke. d. War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to “the poor” and they only want more. e. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 44 years to get it right and they are broke. f. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to get it right and it is broke. g. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year, and we import more oil than ever before. You had 32 years to get it right, and it is an abysmal failure. You have FAILED in every “government service” you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars. NOW YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM?? YOU THINK YOU CAN RUN THE AUTO INDUSTRY?? THE BANKING SYSTEM?? MAYBE WE OUGHT TO HIRE WALMART TO RUN THE GOVERNMENT! WALMART SEEMS TO KNOW HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS…POLITICOS SURE DON’

For one Carnival Splendor passenger, Thursday’s arrival meant trip to jail

For nearly all of the 3,299 passengers on board the Carnival Splendor this week, the ship’s arrival in San Diego Thursday brought relief from what some had referred to as prison-like conditions. But for one unlucky passenger, it brought about a trip to a real jail.

The Associates Press reports a female passenger who had been on the ship this week as it was adrift in the Pacific Ocean was taken off the vessel Thursday in handcuffs. The news service says she had been wanted in Las Vegas on a felony grand theft warrant, a fact that came to light during a routine check performed on all passengers on international cruises.

San Diego Harbor Police Officer Adam Miles says 40-year-old Wendy Singleton was arrested when the Carnival Splendor docked Thursday, the Associated Press says.

The arrest was unrelated to anything that occurred on the ship.

Some news reports say two other people also were arrested, one erroneously, also as a result of routine checks done on cruise ship passengers and not as a result of anything that happened on the ship.

Intoxicated Browns Fan Allegedly Injures An 8-Year-Old Jets Fan

After Sunday’s game in Cleveland between the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets, a Cleveland man allegedly tackled an 8-year old Jets fan, according to the child’s mother. The Jets beat the Browns in overtime, and Browns fans were reportedly flinging food and insults at the young Jets fan and his father.

The rest of the original post is below.

ABC’s affiliate in Cleveland WEWS gives details of the alleged incident:

“As he was walking, holding my son’s hand, a guy from behind tackled him. A drunken Browns fan tackled him and pulled him out of his dad’s hand. He was on the ground crying,” [the child’s mother] said.

She said the little boy’s ankle was scraped and bruised. The dad didn’t call police, opting to leave instead.

NFL fans can certainly take the sport way too seriously at times, and this qualifies as one of those unfortunate cases.

UPDATE: The Jets offered to fly the boy and his family out to the New Meadowlands Stadium a Jets game, but they declined the offer, saying they’re “done with the story.” As Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio said, good on the Jets for making the offer, and it’s understandable the family wants this ordeal to be over with. “Especially,” he says, “if there’s even the slightest possibility that any of the facts have been in any way embellished.”
