Tightrope over the open flames of life…at least there are clowns to make us laugh?

GREETINGS FROM backstage of HELL! No, not like that, backstage of Hell Run at THE Buckeye Lake Music Center, formerly known as Legend Valley Music Center.

This weekend I get to cross off another of my Bucket List Items. I have attended MANY shows here with all of my favorites Jimmy, Ted, even Lil Buddy Brett.

This venue at one time was “Legendary” in the music industry and now in addition to Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, Peter Gabriel, The Grateful Dead, Van Halen, Lenny Kravitz and MANY MORE…THIS HISTORIC VENUE also now has been played by DJ NohBody and myself!

AND if you are looking for something to do (yes I KNOW it is during the OSU vs Miami Game). Join me (I am attending let me know if going) for the Red Rocker-Sammy Hagar, 3 Doors Down and Phil Vassar show at Nationwide Arena Saturday. Sammy has always been a favorite and think Van Halen was better with him. Plus He is a FUN LOVIN’, American Honoring, Surfing Rocker, who loves his job, makes tequila and has the name (scarlet) Red Rocker-he HAS to be an honorary Buckeye? (Dedicated to the Barney who pulled me over on Saturday for going 58 in a 55)

Brad and 3 Doors Down are an awesome show and bring “Southern Rock” back! Plus Brad is so Ugly and aging it gives me hope to be a rock star some day

Phil Vassar he is not only a GREAT performer and song writter, but also and amazing individual-right Rascal Flatts?!?!? Remember when he balled you out of a commitment to KIDS!?!?! (He has the party, and cooler. Come on over!) (an amazing song!)

So it has been a busy week preppin’ for this, that, and many other events all while trying to workout and keep my sinus’ under control. All while getting booked for Events I am excited for in Vegas, and Nashville (the company in Nash-Vegas should be fun too, as I hope to help someone else out, as many have for me!). But the week started out GREAT with the honor of volunteering for the tear down of the Dublin Honor Field-it was sobering yet enjoyable…but I still have some nasty blisters (even wore gloves).

On Sunday we vowed to “Never Forget.” Kinda’ ironic because I stayed at my parents house last Saturday Night after a gig, and my mom got me soup (aww…Lil Boy was sick), anyway she reminded me to take leftovers home. Sunday on a day of remembrance, and to “Never Forget”…I forgot my soup!

I guess I am on the go way too much to remember everything (soup, paying electric, etc)

But it is ok, I have the honor and privilege to travel all over this great country acting like a fool, and being the clown ring master for many events. While I enjoy it, still don’t feel as if I am as tall as I can be. Maybe I need a bigger top hat?

Still not sure where I fit in, and where this gypsy circus that is my life is taking me, but, I do know…

“U can’t be in the circus if u don’t want to leave town”

Reminds me of one of my favorite songs…

Send in the clowns

Just when I’d stopped opening doors

Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours

Making my entrance again with my usual flair

Sure of my lines

No one is there

Don’t you love a farce,

My fault I fear,

I thought that you’d want what I want

Sorry my dear!

But where are the clowns

It is a “Circus Life Under the Big Top World, we all need the clowns to make us laugh.” (yep…just quoted Journey!)

But under the “Big Top” of life sometimes the heat gets turned up, and can feel like in Hell! Sometimes we feel like we are walking a tightrope over flames! Some watching yell “jump,” others offering encouragement…however most don’t know the real person, or the real name-only stage names or the names we give our shells! But before our lights are dimmed over the ferris wheels and big tops of life…don’t forget to turn out the lights (on our own, and on our own terms).

well i woke up in mid afternoon cuz that’s when it all hurts the most

dream i never know anyone at the party and i’m always the host

if dreams are like movies then memories are films about ghosts

you can never escape you can only move south down the coast

i am an idiot walking a tightrope of fortune and fame

i am an acrobat swinging trapezes through circles of flame

if you’ve never stared off into the distance then your life is a shame

and though i’ll never forget your face, sometimes i can’t remember my name

well there’s a piece of maria in every song that i sing

and the price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings

there is always one last light to turn out and one last bell to ring

and the last one out of the circus has to lock up everything

or the elephants will get out and forget to remember what you said

oh and the ghost of the tilt-a-whirl will linger inside of your head

and the ferris wheel junkies will spin there forever instead

when i see you, a blanket of stars covers me in my bed-Adam Duritz

While my tight walk act over my own circus and living Hell is good for me, not everyone is feeling so optimistic about their own traveling circus and travels through their own hell.

This week I was honored to spend some time with one of OUR HEROS as he just got back from Afghanistan and well…a real Hell on Earth. While proud of what he did, I could also tell he was GLAD TO BE BACK. He chose to go into the service and defend US, others just have their own things they are going though. I also had the chance to volunteer at The Ronald McDonald House this week ( I encourage everyone to give their time to something if you choose RMH please check them out It has been way too long since I have had the chance to be back in those walls, and while I did not have many interactions with the guests (I was working on a trash dumpster-true story I guess I know my role), it bothers me that some of these families and the kids they are there to support have to go through such hard struggles-but I am amazed at “most” of their outlooks and way they deal with their situations.

I have a friend going through her own situation, some hell of her own. A normally amazingly optimistic, very spiritual, spunky, strong lady who is usually a pain in my a** (kidding, kinda) is really down due to some bad scenes in her own film of ghosts. She even said been asking God, and he is not listening.

We all get like this-LORD KNOWS I WAS THERE! But there is a great quote I recently came across;

“Asked God for a garden of flowers, he gave me a bag of seeds”-Forget author

Many do not know all the sh*t I fertilized in my own garden, and I don’t know what is going on with others. With my friend, I don’t know her exact situation but I do know days she may feel the world is “hot as Hades” but her, and all of us gotta keep moving towards our goals, no matter how worn out and tired we are! We all go through Hell but gotta keep pushin!

This weekend find a problem, roll down the windows and enjoy the heat (it is getting COLD HERE IN O-H-I-O) as your travel through yer own Hell. Maybe concentrate on what’s ahead as you walk your own tightrope  above life’s flames. Maybe walk on fire! BUT don’t be scared, don’t look (back), don’t look down and DON’T STOP moving!

Serendipity Stables
Dear Friends & Supporters. As you may or may not know, we rely on donations from our Second Sunday Open Houses to buy feed and supplies for the Healing Horses each month. Our Open House this month coincided with 9/11 this year and our community was attending to remembrances. As such we did not take in enough money to keep our horses cared for in Sept. If your heart is so moved please consider making an online donation through our website to help us get through the month. Blessings – Michele

NUGENT: Ten years of gratitude

Americans must stand with our military until the long war is won
By Ted Nugent
On this anniversary of Sept. 11, I am not remembering so much as I am looking forward.

Like Dec. 7, Sept. 11 will be forever seared into our national consciousness. Everyone will forever remember exactly where he was when the voodoo terrorists attacked America and killed almost 3,000 of our countrymen on that September day. It is a day that will live in infamy.

I remember and thank the brave warriors of the U.S. military and their families who have sacrificed so much over these past 10 years to keep America safe. They know that the cost of freedom can be terribly high, heartbreakingly painful and personal. I am humbled to be in their presence.

If we learn anything from that horrible day, it is that there are evil, maniacal subhuman maggots in the world who have no respect for life. They are filled with evil voodoo bloodlust, hate and rage. They believe killing in all forms, including beheadings, brings great joy to their God. Evil is sick is evil.

Hey don’t need your rockin chair!!! George Jones ‘Overwhelmed’ by Dual 80th Birthday Parties

A happy birthday this week to George Jones!! The legendary singer turned 80 on September 12, and celebrated with not one but two star-studded celebrations the following day.

‘The Possum’ began the festivities with a party at Nashville’s famous barbecue joint, Rippy’s, where he was joined by fans and celebrities alike, before heading to the Grand Ole Opry, where stars including Alan Jackson and the Oak Ridge Boys feted the country music legend with a special concert. The dual parties were almost more than the octogenarian could take in.

Adele’s “21” moves up on spot to No. 2 with 121,000 (down 21%) while last week’s runner-up, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “I’m With You,” falls to No. 5 with 58,000 (down 75%).

Adele Makes Billboard Hot 100 History With ‘Someone Like You’

The Billboard 200’s top debut is George Strait’s “Here For a Good Time,” starting at No. 3 with 91,000. It’s the country icon’s follow-up to 2009’s No. 1-debuting “Twang,” which launched with 155,000. “Here” is Strait’s 17th top 10 on the Billboard 200 and 24th No. 1 on the Country Albums chart. However, it is also his first studio album to bow with less than 100,000 since way back in 1994, when “Lead On” started with 56,000 at No. 26.

The Beatles’ “1” re-enters at No. 4 with 60,000 (up 5,786%) after the greatest hits package made its digital debut in the iTunes Store last week. Promotion from the retailer, its sale price of $9.99 and a successful Twitter campaign enables the album’s lofty return. The set, first released in 2000, sold just 1,000 copies the previous week.

On Twitter, the promoted hash tag #MyBeatles1 asked fans: What is your favorite “1” track? The question prompted responses from regular folks and celebrities, too. Among the stars tweeting their favorites: Justin Bieber (“She Loves You”), Ke$ha (“I Want To Hold Your Hand”), Foo Fighters (“Hey Jude”) and Coldplay (“Something”).

The Beatles and Doris Day Crack Top 10 on U.K. Album Chart

The Beatles’ “1” spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in late 2000 and early 2001 and has sold 11.8 million copies in the U.S. It’s the sixth-biggest selling album of the past 20 years. The 27-track set contains every No. 1 hit by the band on the Billboard Hot 100 and the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart.

Medal of Honor recipient highlights Marine’s valor as well as risks US troops faced under controversial rules of engagement

On Thursday, President Obama will award the Medal of Honor to Marine Sgt. Dakota Meyer.

Meyer will become the third living recipient–and first Marine–to be awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan, the White House said. He is also the first living former Marine to receive the highest U.S. military honor since the Vietnam war, a Marine Corps press officer told The Envoy Wednesday.

The heroic conduct Meyer displayed in saving the lives of 13 fellow Marines and 23 Afghan soldiers occurred in September 2009 in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. The rules of engagement in place at the time have caused controversy and some bitterness.

Dems starting to think Obama could lose

Three weeks ago, I posed the question of what would happen if Democrats became so convinced that Barack Obama could not win a second term that they asked him to step aside.  Yesterday, the New York Times reports that leaders in the party are starting to come to the conclusion that Obama may not be able to succeed — and that has alarm bells going off:

Democrats are expressing growing alarm about President Obama’s re-election prospects and, in interviews, are openly acknowledging anxiety about the White House’s ability to strengthen the president’s standing over the next 14 months.

Elected officials and party leaders at all levels said their worries have intensified as the economy has displayed new signs of weakness. They said the likelihood of a highly competitive 2012 race is increasing as the Republican field, once dismissed by many Democrats as too inexperienced and conservative to pose a serious threat, has started narrowing to two leading candidates, Mitt Romney and Rick Perry, who have executive experience and messages built around job creation.

And in a campaign cycle in which Democrats had entertained hopes of reversing losses from last year’s midterm elections, some in the party fear that Mr. Obama’s troubles could reverberate down the ballot into Congressional, state and local races. …

But a survey of two dozen Democratic officials found a palpable sense of concern that transcended a single week of ups and downs. The conversations signaled a change in mood from only a few months ago, when Democrats widely believed that Mr. Obama’s path to re-election, while challenging, was secure.

Best Fall Trips 2011

Cooler temperatures, striking colors, smaller crowds—autumn is the perfect time to travel, and here are ten of the best fall trips, picked by National Geographic Traveler editors.

Ohio’s capital and largest city celebrates harvest season with a bounty of traditional fall festivals, farmers markets, and corn mazes. Pick your own apples (September) and pumpkins (October) at Lynd’s Fruit Farm in Pataskala, and, the first weekend in October (contingent on the harvest), jump in the barrel to stomp whole grapes at Via Vecchi Winery’s annual grape crush. Enjoy east-central Ohio’s spectacular fall colors by walking, biking, hiking, or camping at one of the 17 Columbus-area Metro Parks. The largest, Battelle Darby Creek in Galloway, covers more than 7,000 acres of flowering prairies, restored wetlands, and forests, and is home to diverse wildlife, including six female bison introduced to the park in February. In October, Columbus also hosts thousands of migratory birds at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center. The 72-acre Scioto River oasis, built on a reclaimed industrial waste site, is a ten-minute walk from downtown. Other areas to explore on foot include the brick-paved streets of the historic German Village neighborhood—originally settled by German immigrants in the mid-1800s—and the Short North Arts District, home to galleries, restaurants, pubs, and one of the hometown-favorite Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams shops.

Man Sues White Castle Claiming Seats Do Not Accommodate Larger Customers

A New York man sued Columbus-based White Castle saying the seats in the restaurant do not accommodate customers of all sizes.

White Castle Vice President Jamie Richardson, said that customer service is a big focus of the company, 10TV’s AJ Smith reported on Tuesday.

According to the lawsuit, the man dined at a restaurant that did not have tables and chairs, only booths.

The 6 foot tall, 290 pound man said he couldn’t fit.

Nationwide Arena deal reached in effort to support struggling Blue Jackets

Nationwide Arena would become a publicly owned venue and Nationwide Insurance would become a minority owner of the Columbus Blue Jackets under terms of proposed deal unveiled Wednesday afternoon.

The agreement, which will require approval by Columbus City Council, Franklin County commissioners and Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority, would help keep the financially strapped Blue Jackets from leaving Columbus, sources told Columbus Business First.

As proposed, the Convention Facilities Authority, a city/county government entity and landlord for the Greater Columbus Convention Center, would buy the arena for $42.5 million from Nationwide and Dispatch Printing Co. The agency also would take over management of the arena.

To finance the deal, the authority would borrow $43.3 million from Nationwide and $10 million from the Ohio Department of Development. The city and county would agree to help pay down that debt by providing a portion of the gaming tax revenues they expect to receive when Penn National Gaming Inc. (+NASDAQ:PENN) opens its Columbus casino next year.

Buckeyes to Honor 1961 Championship Team with 2011 Nike Pro Combat system uniform

2011 Nike Pro Combat Uniform

This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Ohio State University’s undefeated 1961 championship season — a distinctive milestone that provides a source of inspiration for a program steeped in tradition and rooted in pride. The 2011 Nike Pro Combat system of dress design for the Buckeyes harkens back to that team, whose offensive power lived in its backfield, led by the 6’0, 227 pound All-American fullback, Bob Ferguson. The Heisman runner-up was a power runner and contributed immensely to the team’s noteworthy speed, aggression and smarts. This uniform acknowledges the dominance of the 1961 team and will deliver an undeniable motivation for the current Buckeyes when they face off against Wisconsin on October 29.

Distinctive white block lettering on Ohio State’s bold scarlet jersey is accompanied by gray sleeve and collar accents that provide a retro look high in contrast. An inscription of the year “1961” on the inner neckline, socks and sleeves act as a silent reminder of the indisputable determination of that year’s lineup. A steel gray baselayer and matching arm sleeves feature a print reminiscent of a buckeye tree. These two pieces are patterned after Buckeye Grove – home to a collection of buckeye trees planted in honor of each first team All-American player, like Ferguson, whose presence always commanded respect. Dark gray pants complement the baselayer design, emblazoned with a prominent block ‘O’ on the hip alongside a scarlet streak on the pant leg.

Praise ye the Lord, Praise the Lord, O my soul. While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being. Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God: Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever; Which executed judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The Lord looseth the prisoners. The Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. The Lord shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the Lord. Psalm 146:1-10.

Thought for the week: “My Basket of Blessings”

My life, well it’s my basket, each day the Lord begins to add His special blessings as I lift it up to Him. The blessings of a new day. The sun, so bright and warm, that I arose this morning in a place that I call home… Flowers in my garden, birds that sweetly sing, music from my radio – oh, what happiness they bring. Hands to help my neighbors, work for me to do, joy to fill my heart and soul whenever I am blue. My basket’s overflowing at the ending of the day. Such thankfulness fills my heart… with such gratitude I pray.”

Explains a lot

Sleeping In = Nightmares?

If Voldemort’s chasing you in a dream, it probably means you stayed up too late.

If you’re no stranger to the “oh-dark-thirty” hours, those late nights might be the stuff nightmares are made of, according to a new Turkish study.

The researchers surveyed 264 men and women about their sleep habits and the kinds of dreams they experience. Turns out, people who like to stay up late and have a tough time waking up in the morning—a.k.a. “night owls”—scored 71 percent higher on a scale of nightmare frequency than “morning people.”

The researchers also found that night owls had more difficulty getting back to sleep after a nightmare than morning types, remembered their dreams more vividly, and consequently felt more tired during the day.

5 TIPS (not a comprehensive list)

Be Yourself. The concept of “Fake it until You make it” is fundamentally flawed. You need to ensure that the way you articulate your core promise is consistent with both your personality and value system. I have had a number of occasions when people I have interviewed (either for employment or to provide a service) have strived to make me see them in the light they think is most flattering, suppressing their personality in the process. This works for a couple of superficial conversations, but quickly falls apart when discussing something of substance or when working with the person under pressure. It honestly doesn’t take too long for somebody to determine if you are genuine or simply playing a role. Most people feel burned when they realize you’d been attempting to dupe them. In my experience, the negative emotion associated with knowing you’ve been “played” doesn’t ever result in a positive outcome. In business it is a reputation destroyer. If you have to pretend to fit in, then your assignment or workplace is a bad fit.

Don’t Be Negative. Most people can see that something is wrong when things aren’t going according to plan. Being constantly reminded is never welcomed. In fact, you may find yourself labeled as “Captain Obvious” and quickly marginalized by the people you work with. People like to work with effective problem-solvers, not the “Town Cryer”. That doesn’t mean to be “Pollyannaish”. It simply means when things need fixing, objectively describe the problem and offer a solution. You want to create the equity of somebody who is focused on making your economic development organization and everybody around you more successful.

Ask For What You Want. Remember Karnak The Magnificent? Psssst, it was just a skit. People really can’t read minds, so nobody is going to know what you want or need if you do not tell them. In my experience, the amazing thing is if you are asking for something reasonable there is a high probability people will give it to you. Ultimately people you work with tend to want you to be successful, particularly if your success helps them be successful. Failing because you did not ask for what you needed makes no sense. The key is to know what you need. This is sometimes easier said than done. But with some research, it isn’t overly difficult to define. What you need often falls under one of these four buckets: resources, knowledge, direction or skills. Define it and then ask for help.

Serve, Don’t Just Sell. People fail when they are perceived to be “in it for themselves”. If you are seen as a user of people, you will soon find that your personal brand is in serious trouble. Remember, user rhymes with loser and that is the path you’ll be on. I learned a long time ago that if you genuinely care for the other person’s success more than your own (not pretend to care but genuinely care) you will be far more successful than you can imagine. People want to help people who help them achieve their goals. This means that if your promise isn’t the best solution then you admit it, and ideally recommend a better solution. Don’t tarnish your personal brand with failure because your ego got the best of you. Over promising and under delivering is a certain recipe for failure. So stop selling yourself and start serving others (especially capital investors) by presenting solutions to their problems.

Listen and Act on What You Hear. I always get a chuckle out of the wisdom in the statement – “You have two ears and one mouth, use them in that proportion.” The problem is most people simply don’t listen. They are too quick with a rebuttal or blind to their faults. Listen to the feedback you get on how to improve your performance. Hear what is being said, and what the unsaid implications to your personal brand are if you don’t take action. Don’t let your mouth get in the way of your success. And remember, information plus action equals knowledge. Knowing what is wrong, but not taking action keeps you ignorant and less successful than your potential
