“Great (Pink) Pumpkins” carving up’ed by The Boys of Summer. And Halloween Events in Central Ohio

GREETINGS FROM The Home office in GLOOMY, RAINY, and COLD Dublin Ohio (even more so than last week!!!)

Very tired today after what was arguably one of the best World Series Game 6’s. I was rooting for Nerk Ahia hometown hero Derek Holland, and my personal favorite Josh Hamilton. I personally think Hamilton not only has the best story in The Bigs, but also an amazing story of “Hope is Never Lost!”

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1550035/hope_the_josh_hamilton_story/

That game was NUTS, (I AM REALLY DREADING ALL THE TEXT MESSAGES, AND EMAILS I SENT TO THE DIRTY BIRD FANS-those are coming back to haunt me!) as I tuned in after The best Halloween TV show ever “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” all I could conjure up was “Good Grief.” (actually my language during the last few innings was a LOT worse!!!)

As I was watching “The Great Pumpkin” I again realized Charlie Brown and I had a lot in common, but I refuse to be the lovable loser anymore. However he and I do have one thing in common…”I gotta Rock”

Tonight in a game 6, The “Boys of Summer” are crowning a new “Mr. October” as many watch and enjoy their Candy.

During this last week in October, in the “spirit of Halloween” many in Central Ohio, and the Midwest thought that there was an “alien invasion.” This was not the case, but we did get to see one of the most beautiful of Nature (and God’s) creations, The Northern Light phenomenon:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIitTNFJ-vI&feature=player_embedded

Speaking of “Nature” I had the chance to go to The Columbus Zoo on Wednesday and see some of the animals rescued from Zanesville. I was not allowed to take any pixx, but can say they all looked healthy, and I am glad The Governor’s Office and Dept. Of Agriculture found a way to assure all are safe with an imposed “quarantine.” (complete listing of this week’s events below).

But as I was monkeying around at the zoo 2 really cool things happened. One, I was there at feeding time, and got to hear one of the lions roar. WOW this got my attention, and got me thinking. HOW IN THE WORLD COULD ONE OF THE NEIGHBORS IN ZANESVILLE “not know he had lions over there.” WHAT?!?!? That sounds nothing like a house cat purr, or a dog bark!!!

Two, I am 30-some odd years old, and I have never had a candy apple. I had a little old lady give me one (ok after reading that it sounded more creepy than it was). She gave me this thing, and WOW it was awesome-the only problem is I was drooling more than the animals waiting on their dinner! I think I wore half of it-good thing I had a brown and green t-shirt on.

As we wrap up the last weekend in October, PLEASE remember in Addition to all the Baseball Playoff and World Series Games, in Addition to all The Football, In Addition to praying for a Jackets win, and in Addition to all the Halloween items…it is STILL BREAST CANCER AWARNESS MONTH, please educate yourselves to this issue for the sake of a loved one, and ladies please learn how to check yourselves, as well as, schedule your mammograms. I like boobs, but I also like life even more!

There was some AWESOME NEWS THIS WEEK, about progress, and honoring an amazing woman-Stefanie Speilman (even if her husband is so POMPOUS, HIS FACE was above the article relating to HIS AMAZING WIFE!)

Stefanie’s fight against cancer is now our fight
Today, there are 2.6 million women in the United States who are survivors of breast cancer. No doubt, many of these women are still with us because they identified a possible tumor during a self-examination, promptly saw their doctor and got treatment.

As we mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have much to be thankful for. More precise imaging technology has improved our ability to detect a tumor in its earliest stages, and an ever-expanding list of treatments and therapies increases the probability that our mothers, our wives, our sisters and our daughters will survive their bouts with breast cancer.

It’s at times such as these that I’m reminded of what my wife, Stefanie, once said, “With each year, each month and each day there are breakthroughs and possibilities in the fight against cancer.” Her words give me strength and determination to make real her dream of ending this terrible disease.

The Ohio State University, our alma mater, recently named its breast-cancer center The Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center. In speaking for our four children, I must say that we are humbled by the honor, and we know she would be, too, most importantly because of the important work of the center.

NEXT MONTH? MOVEMBER, for Prostate Cancer Research and knowledge. I will again be growing out my “ugly mustache” and asking for help raising funds.

AND one of my favorite days of the year! Actually my favorite is just over 140 days away, and that means…IT IS HALLOWEEN WEEKEND! A time when…

Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y’alls neighborhood

The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom

(Full list of all Halloween related events days/times are listed below)

I also found out my buddies from Lt. Dan’s New Legs, are dressing up, as ME this weekend at their gigs (I even loaned them some of my stage gear). I am not sure if I should be honored or embarrassed…

Happy Halloween everyone! BE SAFE, and HAVE FUN!!!

HALLOWEEN:

History:
There is a reason St. Patty’s Day, and Halloween are my
2 favorite Holidays. They are intertwined. The colors
of the Irish Flag are Green-Catholics (Celts), and
Orange-Progs (Druids). The white in the Irish flag stands for PEACE between the Catholics and Protestants. Also Halloween and St. Patty’s day are on the exact opposite ends of the Calendar year. Here is official background on a great Holiday.

Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic
festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in).

The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that
is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern
France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This
day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the
beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year
that was often associated with human death. Celts
believed that on the night before the new year, the
boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead
became blurred. On the night of October 31, they
celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the
ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to
causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that
the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it
easier for the Druids, or Celtic priests, to make
predictions about the future. For a people entirely
dependent on the volatile natural world, these
prophecies were an important source of comfort and
direction during the long, dark winter.

To commemorate the event, Druids built huge sacred
bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and
animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities.

During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes,
typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and
attempted to tell each other’s fortunes. When the
celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires,
which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from
the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the
coming winter.

By A.D. 43, Romans had conquered the majority of
Celtic territory. In the course of the four hundred
years that they ruled the Celtic lands, two festivals
of Roman origin were combined with the traditional
Celtic celebration of Samhain.

The first was Feralia, a day in late October when the
Romans traditionally commemorated the passing of the
dead. The second was a day to honor Pomona, the Roman
goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is
the apple and the incorporation of this celebration
into Samhain probably explains the tradition of
“bobbing” for apples that is practiced today on
Halloween.

By the 800s, the influence of Christianity had spread
into Celtic lands. In the seventh century, Pope
Boniface IV designated November 1 All Saints’ Day, a
time to honor saints and martyrs. It is widely
believed today that the pope was attempting to replace
the Celtic festival of the dead with a related, but
church-sanctioned holiday. The celebration was also
called All-hallows or All-hallowmas (from Middle
English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints’ Day) and the
night before it, the night of Samhain, began to be
called All-hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween.
Even later, in A.D. 1000, the church would make
November 2 All Souls’ Day, a day to honor the dead. It
was celebrated similarly to Samhain, with big
bonfires, parades, and dressing up in costumes as
saints, angels, and devils. Together, the three
celebrations, the eve of All Saints’, All Saints’, and
All Souls’, were called Hallowmas.

Top 10 Sexy Halloween Costumes That Shouldn’t Exist

Halloween is a few days away, so stragglers will be picking apart the remains of costume shops or paying extra for shipping all week. Some people opt for funny (Angry Jet Blue Flight Attendant), political (Kim Jung Il), or cultural memes (keyboard cat). But sadly, a majority of the adult female population tries to go sexy. While it’s pretty easy to make a Snooki or Tinkerbell costume revealing, costume companies also push some “sexy” options that should be anything but.

TOP 10 HALLOWEEN/SCARY MOVIES:

1.) Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)

Directed by Tod Williams

THE SINGLE SCARIEST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!
After experiencing what they think are a series of “break-ins”, a family sets up security cameras around their home, only to realize that the events unfolding before them are more sinister than they seem.
2.) SEVEN (1995)

Directed by David Fincher

From the jittery, scratched celluloid of its opening credits onward, Seven oozes more apocalyptic doom and deranged creativity than any Brad Pitt movie has a right to. Before this film came out, gluttony, greed, sloth, envy, wrath, pride, and lust were just intangible words uttered in Sunday school. From its bleak, rainy setting to an unshakably grim finale, Seven is so nihilistic and disturbing it’s hard to fathom how it ever got greenlit. We mean that as a compliment.

3.) PSYCHO (1960)

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock

A charter member of the scary movie hall of fame. Many of its most renowned features are readily apparent: those startling cuts (more than 50 in the shower sequence alone), Anthony Perkins’ neurotic mama’s boy, Bernard Herrmann’s shrieking-violins score. But Psycho’s sneakiest tricks manifest themselves more subtlely. Take Hitchcock’s decision to use a handful of different stabbers in Janet Leigh’s slice-and-dice sequence: ”He kept changing it so the audience wouldn’t be able to get a fix on Mother,” Leigh, who spent seven days in that shower, told EW in 1999. ”At one point it was Tony’s stand-in, at one point it was a woman. Never Tony.” Bottom line: It still works.

4.) HALLOWEEN (1978)

Directed by John Carpenter

The original Halloween is, was, and ever shall be the alpha and omega of bogeyman flicks. It also remains one of the most profitable indie films of all time — costing a mere $300,000 and pulling in more than $55 million. The influence of Psycho (”It’s the granddaddy of all horror movies,” says Carpenter) is everywhere — from the tiniest details (Donald Pleasence’s Dr. Sam Loomis is named after Janet Leigh’s boyfriend in Psycho) to the casting of Jamie Lee Curtis as Halloween’s shrieking heroine and babysitter in peril. ”It didn’t hurt that Janet Leigh was her mom,” says Carpenter, ”because everyone’s a fan of Psycho.” And Halloween.

5.) THE RING (2002)

Directed by Gore Verbinski

Few supernatural films have proven to be as unwittingly grounded in reality as The Ring. Released back when SARS was a particularly crappy Scrabble attempt and ”bird flu” something that Heckle gave to Jeckle, The Ring has aged into a rare kind of thriller, one with frights that not only hold up years later, but are heightened, thanks to subsequent real-life events. With its virus-like ”villain” (a mysterious tape that’s passed from one victim to the next) and the slow-build physical deterioration it causes (nosebleeds, hallucinations), Gore Verbinski’s box office hit now seems culturally clairvoyant in our disease-distressed times.

6.) JAWS (1975)

Directed by Steven Spielberg

”Is it true that most people get attacked by sharks in about three feet of water?” When this doom-drenched gem — the highest-grossing film on our list — hit theaters, it gave new meaning to the phrase red tide. Weeks over schedule and dizzyingly over budget, Jaws caused Spielberg more than his share of headaches — especially due to his temperamental star. No, not Richard Dreyfuss, but Bruce, the 24-foot-long malfunctioning animatronic great white named after Spielberg’s lawyer. ”The fact that the shark didn’t work was an artistic blessing in disguise,” says Spielberg. ”It forced me to be Hitchcockian.”

7.) THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991)

Directed by Jonathan Demme

As Dr. Hannibal Lecter, Anthony Hopkins is a waking nightmare of seductive depravity — the sick, twisted serial killer America hates to love. Even with Hannibal the Cannibal safely locked away in his maximum-security cell, Jodie Foster’s FBI trainee Clarice Starling is as helpless as a lamb. ”Great villains are subversive — audiences go and see them because they feel uncomfortably attracted to them,” says Scott Glenn, who plays Starling’s seen-it-all FBI mentor in Silence. ”To this day I still have nightmares about it.” Join the club.

8.) THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974)

Directed by Tobe Hooper

Truth is stranger than fiction…and it’s a hell of a lot scarier, too. Based (like much of Psycho) on the horrific ritual murders committed by Ed Gein, Chainsaw looks, feels, and smells so much like a grainy, low-budget documentary that it borders on snuff. Hooper says that when he settled on the film’s title, ”I lost several friends. But I thought, they’re putting so much energy into hating the title, maybe there’s something there.” Indeed there is; a copy of Chainsaw resides in the Museum of Modern Art

9.) THE EXORCIST (1973)

Directed by William Friedkin

A cat unexpectedly jumping from off camera is scary. But The Exorcist is so disturbing it will mess you up for months. Controversial and profane, The Exorcist remains the most viscerally harrowing movie ever made, not only because it dares to question the existence of God but because it has the cojones to put Satan in the body of a 12-year-old girl.

10.) THE SHINING (1980)

Directed by Stanley Kubrick

Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel about the Torrance family’s headlong plunge into insanity during a secluded Colorado winter remains better known for its T-shirt quotables (”Heeeere’s Johnny!” ”All work and no play make Jack a dull boy”) than as a beautiful and pleasing horror film. It’s a shame. With a haunting score, luscious, near-eternal Steadicam shots, and Jack Nicholson’s grand pirouette into murderous madness at its heart, it’s one of the most artful horror films in history

REAL LIFE SCARY!
5 Real Murderers More Terrifying Than Any Horror Movie
There is no goofier Hollywood invention than the Flamboyant Killer. Whether you were raised on the Friday the 13th movies or Saw-type torture porn, they all have a slapstick quality that lets you know that in the real world, people like this just don’t exist.

Real killers are, of course, much stranger.

#5. Rodney Alcala — The Game Show Contestant
Rodney Alcala is a serial killer who is on death row in San Quentin for murdering five women in the 1970s, but who has subsequently admitted to 30 more murders. He is also under indictment in New York for even more murders, and is believed to be responsible for an astonishing 130 killings total across the U.S.

No, Rodney Alcala will be forever remembered for one thing: In the middle of his murderous California rampage, Rodney Alcala was a contestant on The Dating Game. And he won.

His high cheekbones led dozens of women to grisly ends.
For those of you too young to remember, The Dating Game was an ABC television game show hosted by paragon of 1970s cheese Jim Lange. The basic premise was that a “bachelorette” would ask three “bachelors” (hidden from her view) a series of ridiculous, double entendre laden questions and choose a winner based on who she believed had the bigger mustache. Our serial killer Rodney Alcala somehow found his way onto the show in 1978, even though at the time he was a convicted rapist and a registered sex offender, two things that are generally considered “turn-offs.”

Yeah, but he more than made up for it in sheer looks and style.

Jim Lange introduced Alcala as a photographer, which is eerily creepy in retrospect because Alcala baited many of his victims by pretending to be a professional photographer, and over a thousand explicit photographs of his known and suspected victims were recovered from his residence during the murder investigation.

Wearing a brown leisure suit and sporting a shirt collar with a three-foot wingspan, he took his place in his chair behind the microphone and proceeded to field sexed up questions from a high school drama teacher from Phoenix named Cheryl Bradshaw. Inexplicably, Cheryl decided the following responses made Alcala the most desirable candidate and chose him for a date (keep in mind the “him” in this sentence was aconvicted rapist in the middle of a killing spree).

Cheryl: Bachelor #1 … what is your best time?
Alcala: The best time is at night. Nighttime.
Cheryl: Why do you say that?
Alcala: Because that’s the only time there is.
Cheryl: What’s wrong with the morning? Afternoon?
Alcala: Well those are OK but nighttime’s when it really gets good. (inaudible muttering)

Yeah, we won’t be sleeping anytime soon.
Cheryl: I’m a drama teacher, and I’m going to audition each of you for my … private class. Bachelor #1, you’re a dirty old man. Take it!
Alcala: Uuuunnnhhhh Come on … over here! Grrrrrrrr rrrraaaaarrrrrr.

Remember when your mom told you that you have horrible taste in men?
Cheryl: I’m serving you for dinner. What are you called and what do you look like?
Alcala: I’m called the banana, and I look really good.
Cheryl: Could you be more descriptive?
Alcala: Peel me!
#4. Johann “Jack” Unterweger — The Underwear-Strangling Wordsmith
Jack Unterweger was born in Austria in 1950 and spent his youth in and out of jail for petty crimes. It wasn’t until 1974 that Jack finally discovered his true passion, which was strangling prostitutes to death with their own bras.

Be honest. Who among you hasn’t wanted to strangle a hooker while dressed as the Great Gatsby?

He was given a life sentence and imprisoned in Austria for what one would’ve assumed to be a lengthy stay, but while incarcerated he discovered a new talent that involved way less hooker death — Jack Unterweger began writing, and turned out to be surprisingly good at it. His short stories, poems and plays got the attention of Austria’s intellectual elite, and his autobiography Fegefeuer – eine Reise ins Zuchthaus(Purgatory — A Trip to Prison) was actually made into a movie that was shown on Austrian national TV. Austrian intellectuals began a campaign to release Unterweger, believing that someone of his literary skill couldn’t possibly be capable of murdering anyone and insisting he must be cured of whatever mental defect he might have once had.

The campaign was a success, and Unterweger was freed after serving only 15 years for violent, brutal murder. Thanks to the attention paid to him by his new literary friends, he immediately found work hosting television shows and discussing prison rehabilitation with the media. He also took to dressing in a style described as “a cross between a cowhand and a Mississippi preacher,” his new look as a dapper eccentric helping to disarm and charm those he came across and further convincing the people in his new social circle of his intelligence and artistic authenticity.

uddenly, our public nudity charges don’t seem all that damning.

Oddly enough, Jack apparently still really liked killing hookers — he strangled six in the first year after his release, again with their own bras. Before this unfortunate fact was realized, Jack took a trip to Los Angeles to write a story on prostitution for an Austrian magazine. He went on a freaking ride-along with the LAPD, and afterward strangled three local prostitutes, presumably for additional research.
Police began closing in on Unterweger while he was still in the United States, and he lead the authorities on a nationwide chase. While on the run, he placed calls to his friends back home in the media and the literary elite, imploring them to convince his pursuers of his innocence. Before his friends could indignantly start another campaign to protest his unfair persecution at the hands of the lowbrow American justice system, the Austrian police nailed him on the six murders he had committed since he had been released from prison.

“But he promised he wouldn’t murder again!”

Finally cornered in Miami, Florida, Unterweger was captured and extradited back to Austria, where he hanged himself in his jail cell with his trouser drawstring, presumably because he had writer’s block.

#3. Grady Franklin Stiles Jr. — The Lobster Boy
What Grady Stiles, aka “The Lobster Boy,” lacks in murderous volume, he makes up for in nightmarish creepiness.

Grady Stiles Jr., born on July 18, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had a congenital defect known as ectrodactyly (literally, “monstrous fingers”), which was common in his family.

It’s subtle, but his hands are abnormal.

This deformity didn’t keep the afflicted members of the Stiles brood down, however, as they found their perfect niche in the “carnival freak” community. And Grady’s freakishness was spectacular, as not only were his hands fused into claws, but also his legs and feet were stunted into flippers. His father was already an attraction at the traveling sideshows, so he quickly put Grady to work in the tents at age 7, billing him as the amazing Lobster Boy, a moniker he would retain for the remainder of his life.

In modern times they would call him “Lawyers’ Wet Dream.”
Grady grew up, married another carnival performer named Mary Teresa Herzog and by all accounts was a mean, drunken, hateful bastard. He was constantly both mentally and physically abusive toward his wife and the four children he produced (two out of the four being lobsters). His handicap left him unable to walk, but because he constantly used his arms to move he developed massive upper body strength, allowing him to deliver vicious pinches, punches, headbutts and choke holds to any and all who displeased him.

Grady was so proud of his claws that he bragged “Everyone I have sex with wants to have sex with my claws!” which we want to point out suggests that not only did Grady have weird lobster sex, but that he had it with more than one person.

As evidenced by his children, named “Proof” and “Suck It.”

When one of Grady’s non-lobster daughters got engaged, Grady became jealous and ended the marriage before it began by shotgunning her fiancee to death on the eve of their wedding in 1978 (how he managed to fire said shotgun is strangely absent from historical records). Even though Grady openly admitted to the act and showed no remorse whatsoever, he was set free after being sentenced to only 15 years probation, presumably because the prison system had no facilities to accommodate lobsters.

“No, for the last time I don’t need a tank, you insensitive asshole.”

His wife Mary left him, got remarried and had another child, but for some reason grew weary of her new life and returned to Grady’s open claws for a second marriage. Grady had not changed his ways, and in point of fact would frequently threaten to kill Mary and her family. It seemed only a matter of time before he made good, so Mary and her son Glenn paid another carnival worker $1,500 to shoot Grady four times in the head while he drank and watched television, which seems like something else they probably could’ve charged admission for.
Grady Stiles was so despised in his community that nobody could be found to step forward to serve as a pallbearer, and his simple gravestone was devoid of any epitaph. The only engravings, aside from his name, were two sets of clasped, praying hands.

It was decided that it was actually worse than the middle finger they originally chose.

#2. Mary Mallon — The Human Plague
Mary Mallon, aka “Typhoid Mary,” has to hold the all-time record for most accidental killings, though there does come a point where the woman deserves a least a little bit of the blame.

Mallon was born on September 23, 1869 in Ireland and immigrated to the United States at the age of 15 to eke out a living as a domestic servant, because that’s the American dream. She found she had a talent for cooking, presumably because there is literally nothing else to do in Ireland, which allowed her to make a decent living among the upper class of the New York area.

In 1900 she found herself in the employ of a household in Mamaroneck, but after only two weeks all of the residents had developed a serious illness. Mary moved to Manhattan and took a job with another wealthy family, again as the cook. Soon after securing her position, several family members started to develop fevers and diarrhea, and one of her fellow workers died. Mary took yet another cooking job at the home of a rich lawyer, and not much time had passed before seven of the eight members of the family were stricken with disease.

We’re sure at this point you’re sensing a pattern, and evidently so did the New York Board of Health. Dr. Sara Josephine Baker responded to investigate, but Mary refused to hear any talk of her possible link to the sickness and death that seemed to follow her around. A disease researcher, George Soper, approached Mary and asked her to provide urine and fecal samples, but he too was rebuffed, as are most strange men who ask women for souvenirs of their bodily functions.

As it turns out, Mary was crawling with Salmonella typhi bacilli, or typhoid fever, acting as a carrier without showing any symptoms herself. She refused to believe she was the root of all the illness around her, and would even assist in caring for the bedridden accidental typhoid victims, which of course just added to the problem.

Mary was forcibly placed into quarantine at an island clinic, languishing away until 1910, when the new New York State Commissioner of Health decided that keeping disease carriers in forced isolation was cruel, whereupon Mary was given a choice.

The authorities told Mary that she was free to leave on one condition — that she would no longer work in the culinary field. Mary agreed and rejoined society, a phrase which here means “she took a job as a cook, in a fucking hospital.”

“Hey, Mary, remember that quiet little cabin you used to pretend that you hated?”
When 25 people came down with typhoid fever after they’d come to the hospital for treatment of other ailments, Typhoid Mary was again taken into custody and sent back to her island quarantine, where she spent the remainder of her life. Reporters and researchers would occasionally drop by the island to interview her, but nobody challenged her with the most important question: Since Salmonella typhi is found in human urine and feces, what the hell was going on in Mary Mallon’s kitchen, and why was her cooking so popular among the New York elite?

#1. Souflikar — The “Hands-On” Executioner
How does a single man manage to kill 5,000 people without the aid of any weapons of mass destruction? Ask Souflikar.

Souflikar was the personal executioner for Mahomet IV, plying his trade during the time of the Ottoman Empire. This driven professional killed an average of three people a day over five years, until he wound up with 5,000 bodies to his name. A number that is about to become way, way more horrifying once you hear how he did it.

Was it a machine gun? It was a machine gun, wasn’t it?

Souflikar didn’t mess around with nooses or axes or any of that bullshit.

He strangled his victims to death with his bare goddamned hands. Not necessarily an unfair man, Souflikar offered his prey a sporting chance. The condemned were challenged to a race through the royal gardens to the place of execution. If they won, they were offered the reprieve of banishment. But if Souflikar won, he choked their immortal souls right out of their bodies.

There’s a video game coming, just as soon as Intel gets Choke-O-Vision working.
You would think this process would do nothing more than create a race of super-fast murderers via natural selection, but apparently Souflikar just didn’t lose.

Unless Mahomet IV made having heel spurs or morbid obesity a capital offense, Souflikar’s athletic prowess must have been incredible. His murder-aculous talent is even more amazing when you consider that he didn’t even hold the title of royal executioner. No, his official title was “royal gardener.”

ANIMAL “OPEN-GATE”:

Sheriff standing tall
Sheriff Matt Lutz’s decision to kill dozens of wild animals for the sake of public safety has cast him in a harsh spotlight worldwide. But those who know the Muskingum County lawman and work under him say his leadership made the Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz checked his watch as he strode through the rain and mud to a makeshift news-media tent in a gravel parking lot on Wednesday.

He ducked inside and stepped up to a small, wooden lectern borrowed from the local Moose Lodge to address television and newspaper reporters eager for the latest information about the intentional release the day before of more than 50 wild animals into the hills near here by an eccentric animal collector who had killed himself.

It was about 7:05 p.m.

Lutz announced that he had five or ten minutes and then let each reporter ask a

single question.

“It’s time, sheriff,” a deputy at the back of the tent said.l

Wife wants zoo to return exotic animals taken after Zanesville tragedy
On Thursday the six animals rescued from the tragedy in Zanesville last week are being reclaimed by the former owner’s widow, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium announced. Attorneys for Marian Thompson notified the zoo that she wants the animals back immediately.

Zoo officials responded

Jack Hanna: “I will pursue – till death do me part – that those animals are in a good situation.”

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium response, We have been notified by attorneys for Marian Thompson, the widow of Terry Thompson, of her plans to take back the six animals under the care of the our animal care experts since surviving last week’s tragedy at their farm in Zanesville. The move could happen as early as today as the Zoo has no legal rights to the animals and removed them from the farm with the permission of Ms. Thompson.

We hoped that she would leave the animals at the Zoo in the care of our team of professionals. We are trying to obtain authorization from government authorities and agencies to ensure they stay at the Zoo but unfortunately, the current laws do not protect the animals and at this time we have no legal right to stop them from being taken from the Zoo

Final Outcome from Governors office, and DOA (genius response)

Exotic pets to be quarantined

The six exotic animals which were freed by their owner near Zanesville will remain at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium after the Ohio Department of Agriculture ordered the animals to be quarantined.

The widow of Terry Thompson had informed the zoo she would pick up the animals Thursday afternoon.

The animals could be infected with disease, according to a news release from the agriculture department.

Marian Thompson can appeal the order. She’s entitled to a hearing within 30 days.
Three leopards, two Celebes macaques and a young grizzly bear have been housed at the zoo since last week. The zoo says it has no legal rights to the animals.

OCCUPY:

Thanks ‘Occupy’ crowd.. you have reminded me why I first wanted to be a Republican.. I prefer to be and be around people who rather than whine about their situation actually gets up and does something about it. People who look at success as something they admire and want to work to achieve rather than thinking how I can get part of someone else’s effort with little or no work. Times are tough for many.. there is no doubt about that. Kudo’s to those who are picking up extra small jobs, cutting back and struggling through I will stand with those folks any day. America’s strength has always come from the rugged independence of the individual who has enough freedom to change his or her own lot. I pray a day does not come when America’s national mentality is…. ‘they got there’s give me some of it’.- Chris McNulty

 Dear Occupy Wall Street …
A Message From Dave Ramsey
By Dave Ramsey
“I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!” Yeah, that’s great. But what do you want? What are your goals? What are your demands? What result are you looking for?

The beauty of being vague is that anyone who has any emotion can get caught up in the excitement and join your crusade. They’ll just get mad at something and assume that you’re both mad about the same thing. Put a few hundred of these people together, and boom. You’ve got a crowd, a headline and a lot of attention … but no message.

A lot of people on Twitter are saying I totally agree with the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) demands and goals. The only problem is that I have no idea what their demands and goals are. And neither does anyone else. If all you ever do is stomp around, yell and hold up signs protesting a million different things, sure you’ll get some attention, but over time, you’ll just look foolish. You end up coming across like a three-year-old having a temper tantrum.

No tights or cape on Wall Street!

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Won’t Occupy Wall Street
Bruce Wayne is sticking with the one percent, it seems, as “The Dark Knight Rises” won’t be occupying Wall Street after all.

Reports that Christopher Nolan would potentially be shooting portions of his final Batman movie in New York City’s Zuccotti Park — the home base for the New York chapter of the Occupy Wall Street movement — have turned out to be false. According to Entertainment Weekly, a Warner Bros. representative has shot down the rumor, saying that there are no plans for “The Dark Knight Rises” to film scenes in Zuccotti Park.

…AND ACORN IS NOT CRACKED?

ACORN Playing Behind Scenes Role in ‘Occupy’ Movement

The former New York office for ACORN, the disbanded community activist group, is playing a key role in the self-proclaimed “leaderless” Occupy Wall Street movement, organizing “guerrilla” protest events and hiring door-to-door canvassers to collect money under the banner of various causes while spending it on protest-related activities, sources tell FoxNews.com.

The former director of New York ACORN, Jon Kest, and his top aides are now busy working at protest events for New York Communities for Change (NYCC). That organization was created in late 2009 when some ACORN offices disbanded and reorganized under new names after undercover video exposes prompted Congress to cut off federal funds.

DID YOU KNOW?:

The deficit can be fixed!?!?

Warren Buffett, “I could end the deficit in 5 minutes,” he told CNBC. “You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all
sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. The 26th
amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months
& 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in
1971…before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to
the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the
land…all because of public
pressure.

Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of
twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do
likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the
message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system,
and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for
any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans
do.

4. Congress will no longer vote
themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay
will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the
same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American
people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen
made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor,
not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours
should serve their term’s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take
three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is
time?

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

I hear the officer saying “Make a Hole” the individuals did not. I am not sure what I think? Both sides are to blame?

Postgame Haka dancers in Utah pepper sprayed by police
Controversy has erupted in Utah after police reacted aggressively to a traditional Maori dance being performed by men and high school students after a small town football game on Thursday night.
According to the Associated Press, Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune, among other sources, a group of relatives of a player for the Roosevelt (Utah) Union High football team was attacked with pepper spray by police officers in Roosevelt, Utah, while performing the dance shortly after Uintah’s 17-14 victory. The group performing the Haka reportedly blocked the exit from the field, and while their dance was destined to be a quick one — as practically all Hakas performed by sports teams are — police insisted that they move from the area to allow players and others to leave the field.

When they began dancing instead, Roosevelt police began using pepper spray to displace the crowd.

Can you please help “George & Tracy” as they try to “Get Married in the Shoe?” (Link Below)
Why should we get married in Ohio Stadium?
George and I met working at a golf course he was the superintendent and I was the event coordinator. Our first Ohio State game was the USC game in 2009,we had a lot of fun I even tackled Brutus, in play of course so the mascot from OU doesn’t have anything on me!(By the way did I mention George graduated from Ohio State so every game he takes to heart!, so this year’s been kind of rough one!) That December I got pregnant and had a miscarriage about 4months in. So to cheer me up George surprised me on Valentine’s day with a cruise to the Bahamas (even in the middle of the Bahamas you yell O-H-and yes you get an I-O!) a month later we found out we were going to have a baby. We had already had our football tickets for the following season every home game we climbed the stairs to C-deck, I was 5months pregnant. Low and behold Thanksgiving day I got sick & ended up in the hospital, they pumped me full of fluids & sent me home, I was up for most of the night and finally fell asleep sometime after mid-night but I didn’t care the big game was the next day, yes I went to the Ohio State vs. Michigan game at 8 months pregnant wasn’t missing it for anything! Sporting my future buckeye arriving soon shirt we climbed the stairs to C deck, stopping a few times on the way to the top but we got there!!! December of 2010 we had a baby boy, I have dressed him up as an OSU cheerleader (dad wasn’t happy about that one, it was an actual cheerleading outfit of his sister’s!), his first trip to the shoe was the spring game and all he did was stare at the field, he has also met Brutus with his big sister. We have made Ohio State games into a family affair! The only thing that would have been better is if I would have went into labor in the SHOE but getting MARRIED in the SHOE would be just as great!!

PASSING:

Memories of Rangers fan live on amid team’s run

On the back bumper of fire truck E1-61, a beautiful white vehicle with low mileage and a 400-gallon tank, is a dinky Band-Aid. The firemen change it when bad weather rots it or if it falls off in the middle of a call. They try to keep it fresh as best they can.

The first time the truck went out on call, dispatch radioed about a roadside fire near Merkel. Some old railroad ties were burning. A strike team with a handful of trucks arrived. The blaze was ornery. Wind cut across the Texas plains. It shot flames back toward the truck, so the driver of E1-61 jammed it into reverse and backed it right into a bridge pillar.

The dent eventually rusted into a scar, the sort every fire truck needs to explain where it’s been and what it’s seen. Often those stories are too much for the firemen themselves to repeat. Their job is to live horror. No sense in waking the past.

Except this story – this one is too good to keep to themselves. Because, damn, was it funny when Shannon Stone smashed that new truck. And as much as they try not to tell stories about him, sometimes the men from the Brownwood Professional Fire Fighters Association just can’t help themselves.

BIRTHDAY/ANNIVERSARY:

The Throwback: ‘Great Pumpkin’ at 45
The classic “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” is celebrating its 45th anniversary today. Meaning, if “Great Pumpkin” were a marriage, this would be its sapphire anniversary. Good grief!

The classic Peanuts gang Halloween special originally aired on October 27, 1966. It aired Thursday on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

CNN spoke to Neil Cole, President and CEO of Iconix Brand Group, which owns Peanuts Worldwide as a joint venture with the family of Charles Schulz.

“Charles Schulz and the ‘Peanuts’ characters continue to hold up,” said Cole.

“They’re so human…I think a lot of people can relate to Charlie Brown and how it’s not a wonderful night for him – he ends up with a lot of rocks. It kind of makes it special – when you do get the candy – that some of us don’t always get the candy, and so I think there’s a special story in there.”

Two New Shows in works for Reality Television

Jersey Shore With a Political Bent
“Andy Warhol predicted that everyone would be world-famous for 15 minutes,” said Doron Ofir, the casting director behind MTV’s Jersey Shore, which debuted in December 2009 and has since become part of America’s cultural fabric. “Reality television has made Warhol’s prophecy come true.”

On Monday, Ofir’s casting company announced a new “sociological experiment”— a reality-television show dramatizing divergent “visions of America.”

In conjunction with a major cable network, the casting impresario behind Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition (ABC) and The Amazing Race (CBS) “is looking for young, hot politicos who care about America [and] follow the heated debates, rallies, protests, and scandals. We are looking for people of all party affiliations—or those who are unaffiliated—as long as you’re outspoken, fearless, free-thinking, unbound, unleashed, unrestrained, appear to be between 21-35, and are politically active and telegenic.”

Paraguay: Aerosmith’s Tyler hurt in hotel fall

“I fell in the shower, not off the wagon”-Steven Tyler
Organizers say an Aerosmith concert in Paraguay will be postponed one day after singer Steven Tyler fell in his hotel bathroom, hitting his face and breaking two teeth.

Garzia Group spokesman Marcelo Antunez is calling the accident “minor” and says the concert will be held on Wednesday.

Antunez said Tuesday that Tyler was treated at a local hospital for cuts on his face and received two dental implants for the lost teeth.

He said the 63-year-old singer was “once again in the Bourbon hotel” recovering for the concert.

BOOKS:

Steve Jobs-Walter Isaacson

Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.
At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering.

Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted.
Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple’s hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values.

THIS IS AWESOME, and LONG OVER DUE. If you have not heard of, or helped…please check out “Honor Flight”

http://www.honorflight.org/

Veterans’ trip to memorial was earned long ago
Honor Flight took more World War II veterans to D.C. this weekend, but as it inevitably loses a race against time, the program soon will involve vets from other wars.

Melville Swanson is quiet as he looks down at his large, weathered hands. It is 6 a.m. on Saturday, and he had been awakened 2 1/2 hours earlier, not entirely sure what his day would bring.

His son and daughter crouch next to him at Port Columbus and explain to a caretaker which pills their 90-year-old dad would need to get the World War II Marine veteran to Washington and back over one long day.

They explain that his blood pressure drops dangerously when he stands up, that he sometimes gets confused. They don’t seem confident that he’ll be able to appreciate the day.

POLITICS:

Cain leading among Ohio Republicans, poll finds
Obama would still win state over top GOP challengers

Former Godfather’s Pizza chief Herman Cain has taken over the lead in Ohio Republicans’ presidential race, but President Barack Obama still beats all comers despite the fact that almost half of Ohioans don’t think he deserves re-election.

Cain, who has made a couple of Ohio appearances recently, tops the GOP field with 28 percent. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is second with 23 percent, followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 8 percent, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 7 percent, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann at 4 percent each, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman at 2 percent and former Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum at 1 percent.

“Herman Cain’s rise has been meteoric,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, in a release. “He has increased his share of the vote among Ohio Republicans four times since Quinnipiac University’s September 28 survey in which he registered 7 percent. Gov. Mitt Romney hasn’t moved and Rick Perry has fallen off a cliff, down to 4 percent from 20 percent.”

ISSUE 2:

State Issue 2

A yes vote will restore control of government budgets to taxpayers
Dispatch EDITORIAL

An independent newspaper serving Ohio since July 1, 1871.

As outlined in an August editorial, The Dispatch would have preferred a compromise on collective-bargaining issues that would have taken State Issue 2 off the ballot and revised Senate Bill 5. That didn’t happen, but because several of the provisions of Senate Bill 5 are essential to the fiscal health of state and local governments in Ohio, The Dispatchrecommends a yes vote on State Issue 2.

Elected officials should be in control of public expenditures. For the nearly three decades since the advent of Ohio’s extremely lopsided collective-bargaining law, elected officials have had too little control over the overwhelming majority of their budgets: salaries and benefits for public employees. That was always poor public policy, but in better economic times, it was sustainable. It isn’t anymore.

As budgets are mercilessly squeezed by the protracted economic downturn, state agencies and local governments need relief from the union-friendly conditions, inherent in Ohio law before Senate Bill 5, that have driven up labor costs and left many public employees with salaries and, especially, benefits that far outstrip those of the taxpayers who pay for them.

BUISNESS/PRODUCT OF WEEK:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
– Steve Jobs

Justice Department Proposes Letting Government Deny Existence of Sensitive

A longtime internal policy that allowed Justice Department officials to deny the existence of sensitive information could become the law of the land — in effect a license to lie — if a newly proposed rule becomes federal regulation in the coming weeks.

The proposed rule directs federal law enforcement agencies, after personnel have determined that documents are too delicate to be released, to respond to Freedom of Information Act requests “as if the excluded records did not exist.”

IRONY:

The Obama Administration stated this week they were “Pulling Troops out of Iraq.” Just like the press conferences and the speeches the POTUS gives, this statement is nothing more than words. More so just like his campaign of “Hope & Change” this is nothing more than SMOKE AND MIRRORS!

I want our guys and gals home! BUT want them to feel they completed their mission, as well as know we have left the area stabilized-I also don’t want ANY POLITITION using their BRAVE lives to be elected!

1.) THIS WILL NOT DO THAT-Iraq is NOT stable, actually it is a very fragile government to say the least. 2.) MOST OF OUR TROOPS are in Afghanistan!!! According to my research most of our troops are in Afghanistan (2 to 3 times the number of troops are in Afghanistan than Iraq. Between 80-120,000 in Afghanistan And Just over 40,000 in Iraq) {New York Times}

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/06/22/world/asia/american-forces-in-afghanistan-and-iraq.html

-this was a political stunt to win VOTES for an election that the current administration feels it could lose come 2012.

Steve Gunn: What does pulling out of Iraq say about the U.S. and its commitments?
I couldn’t help but think of Vietnam when President Barack Obama announced last week that he will withdraw most our remaining military forces from Iraq by the end of the year.

There is an uneasy peace in Iraq. Various religious, ethnic and political factions are constantly poised to strike at each other at the first sign of disagreement. The parliamentary government we installed is not strong enough, or united enough, to guarantee long-term security.

If things fall apart after we leave, what are we supposed to do?

Lions, Tigers, Bears, Black Birds, “Oh my” and nuns, with Terrorists…all in a few words of a fortune and some bad jokes?

GREETINGS FROM The Home office in GLOOMY, RAINY, and COLD Dublin Ohio. In addition to the dreary outside weather, it has not been a bright week for me either. The weather is not only bothering my sinuses, but also my knees. This kinda sucks! It is rather ironic that while I was NOT running in last Sundays Columbus Nationwide Marathon, I could barely walk the next day-I was jumping on and off the stage at the finish  (gathering things that had blown off in the WIND TUNNEL of the finish line!). Thanl you to Brent LaCount and all the staff at The Columbus Nationwide Marathon for allowing us to be part of a great event that caused us to be inspired by all who past by!

Even though I am not even close to running a marathon, a half…or for God’s sake a (decent paced) 5k, I am trying to find good in everything-not really sure what that is right now, but I am sure there is a silver lining in those clouds above.

However I am not really helping myself, I was reminded of a great night with an old friend and one of my favorite bands. And well I have started listening to a lot of Counting Crows this week, while they are one of my favorites…they are not exactly a band that I should listen to (when in certain moods). As I have said many times the mesmerizing lyrics, and tone of Adam Duritz, Matt, Charlie, Dan…and the rest of the boys, takes me to place in my mind that I have buried deep. It is not a fun place to visit, but probably needed not only to try to “fix me,” but also to enjoy the good times even more. Have 11:42 kill? Check this out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWmsjWnQ6VI

With all this nasty weather, gloom, and whatever, it is my perfect own lil kingdom…cause I am beginning to think I really am “The Rain King”

When I think of heaven (Deliver me in a black-winged bird)
I think of flying down into a sea of pens and feathers
and all other instruments of faith and sex and God
In the belly of a black-winged bird
Don’t try to feed me
I’ve been here before and I deserve a little more

I belong in the service of the Queen I belong anywhere but in between
She’s been crying I’ve been thinking And I am the Rain King-Adam Duritz

I guess this is a good thing since I hope to be delivered (to Heaven) ‘In a black winged bird’ cause ONE I watched Edger Allen Poe’s “The Raven” last night on some Halloween movie marathon. And TWO well…”nutball” Christian Radio Station owner, Harold Camping is calling for the end of the world again on Friday (6th times a charm?) …so I got that going for me.

This week in the midst (and mist) of a bad week, had an IM pop up on my screen from an unlikely source. Someone reached out to say he wanted to talk. I won’t go into detail about what, but it was welcomed (and needed).

No matter how bad of a week I had, I would have to say, that Muammar, Gaddafi has had a worse week than anyone. He was living in a sewer, captured-alive, and then shot in the head by his own gold plated gun. I THINK he may even have it worse after his death…rumor has it, the 40 virgins he will encounter are Catholic Nuns, and I speak of experience THEY ARE MEAN! (watch out for the blackboard erasers, they are more accurate at throwing them than a pi**ed off Libyan using a gold gun at point blank range!)

Finally!!! Some justice for the 1985 attempted murder of Doc Brown by the Libyans at Twin Pines Mall parking lot.

While I am a lil down, it has been a week full of growth (TRYING to accept people have opinions and those opinions MAY BE DUMB AND MAY NOT BE BASED ON ANY FACTS!), I have booked over 8 gigs-that was kinda cool. In addition to the friend IM’ing me, another offered help on a frustrating situation, and my car…while it is not fixed (after a 5th wheel came off a trailer and hit me), it is not all that bad-and I am ok.

Speaking of gigs…

Please add my buddies at Marketing Activation Group on Facebook I am lucky enough to be part of their team as they have a lot of exciting (world finals, and year end) events coming up:

https://www.facebook.com/marketingactivationsgroup

SO YEA, I am finding the good in bad things, but I hope things change soon, as the fortune cookie I got this week said “A thrilling time is in store for you.” While I may be a lil down…I am convinced that the fortune cookie is WRONG, I think “A thrilling time is HAPPENING to you!”

No matter what for me, and many in Central Ohio, it has been a WILD WEEK!

This is a scene from a truck stop Southbound on I-70?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NecK4MwOfeI&feature=fvsr

ANIMAL “OPEN-GATE”:

FIRST OFF
Hats off to Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz regarding this week’s animal escape and owner’s death. During Bizarre events and while admitting he is “not a media guy,” he handled himself well. Also to Jack Hanna and the staff of The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, as well as The Wilds, and the entire Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office.

Like I said The weather has been a real “bear” this week. Good days to “monkey” around, and eat a lot cause I have been “hungry like a wolf.”

Last Tuesday; A mountain lion, a monkey and a bear remained on the loose. Rumored to be walking into a bar to await punch line.

However we learned Tuesday Night reports of Noah’s Ark events really were taking place in Southern Ohio. The reports of “Lions, Tigers, & Bears” and Oh My also-Baboons, Leopards, and Monkey’s were on the loose in the flooded area of Terry Thompson’s “farm” full of “exotic animals.” (NOT PETS!)

The first impression I got was all kind of jokes and one liners. Many I stand behind, cause 1.) you must laugh in any event to “get by.” also…with the exception of one (Cowardly…not Lion but,) human life lost, as well as 55(+?) beautiful animals lost this story on the surface is tragically funny.

BUT funny cannot describe the images of the carcasses, the feelings of those who are outraged of the lives lost, and the feelings of the HERO’s of the Muskingum County Sheriff’s office who SAVED LIVES from their IMMEDIATE ACTIONS! Not to mention many grieving family and friends of T.T.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz is a class act. I am an animal lover, and he has my full support! While yes there needs to be action, and some of the calls for that action are from those yelling (calling) with passion…please remember while many are passionate about condemning the actions taken by Muskingum County Sheriff Deputies, NONE of those officers wanted to do the actions, NONE were trained for the actions taken, ALL were acting on orders, and ALL WERE ACTUALLY ON SITE…not watching the news, or playing armchair deputy on the internet!

If they had not acted, many in Zanesville could have woken up in a ‘Hangover’ to find a Tiger in their bathrooms:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhFVZsk3XEs&feature=related

It is a HORRIBLE situation that was preceded with horrible laws (Ohio and Mizz are only states with current laws-was scheduled to change in 6 weeks by Governors Office), and put into action by a selfish moron’s idiotic acts (both suicide and letting the “cat out of the bag”-or cage).

I come from the school of thought if we can’t laugh then, there can be no progress. I am an animal lover and don’t want to see ANY animal hurt, however innocent human life carries more value than an innocent animal (that has instincts to kill). I also was a sociology major, I love when two groups who are so passionate and disagree, while making asinine statements with no facts (like the people who say “why couldn’t they cage the 48 animals” in an hour and a half before dark?!?!?).

I guess good people who when filled with passion make (idiotic) statements, it humors me and I have found this week that the social network is full of good people making themselves out to be morons making statements they CANNOT back up.

Finally, this is a story that could not be written in Hollywood and it is happening in our back yard, we have to embrace it! Fun…yea I am having fun in a difficult situation, but more so, I am fascinated by all the facts coming up, the lessons learned from after the fact, and those who are stepping up to the plate like Sheriff Matt Lutz (a person I would have assumed was a hill jack before this), Jack Hanna, as well as all the allies and foes of Terry Thompson. All are learning experiences and lessons that I am embracing.

The final count from this tragedy:
56 Animals -total

49 Dead
6 Saved
1 Missing

DEAD
2 Wolves
6 Black Bears
2 Grizzly Bears
17 Lions
1 Baboon
3 Mountain Lions
18 Tigers

SAVED
1 Grizzly Bear
3 Leopards
2 Monkeys

MISSING?
1 Infected Monkey

With all that said…while “we think the monkey was eaten by the lion,” oh sh*t we may have to live all this again?

To those who think “it was not all that bad,” REALLY!!! Were you there? Cause these people were!

Residents Come Dangerously Close To Escaped Animals
Several people spoke on Wednesday about their close encounters with escaped exotic animals.

That included one man who said he came within 30 feet from a tiger, 10TV’s Tanisha Mallett reported.

Sam Kopchak lived near the property where more than 50 animals escaped in Zanesville.

Kopchak took a new horse to pasture when he first spotted a bear, then a tiger, Mallett reported.
He said that he slowly walked his horse back to the barn.

“Thank goodness we made it down to the barn, I had a little time getting him in the stall,” said Kopchak.  “Got him put away and I closed all the doors.”

Joel Harris also said he found himself near one of the escaped animals while he was driving to a friend’s house.

“I looked in my rear view mirror as we are going past and I saw something that was black and it wasn’t a cow and it was really big so we turned around and went back and it was a bear,” Harris said.

The ANSWER to the question all the “so-called experts” asked “But why didn’t they just tranquilize the animals”

To the “professionals” on all social networking sites…NO “they” could not “just tranquilize” the 56 (wild) animals who were shot by Sheriff Deputies. I know a few pictures move you (and me as well) but that does not mean you (or any of us) know more than Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium-Jack Hanna, or the professional at The Wilds. BOTH advised Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz to “put down the animals to preserve human life.” While tragic, it was the only scenario available for a positive solution. So before you ask (or post) questions…watch the videos to know the answer to your questions. Still feel like you know more? Why didn’t YOU have 56 “traps” or tranquilizers in your possession? Better yet, there is still a monkey on the loose, feel free to show you know more than any of the other proven professionals. I stand behind Lutz, Hanna, the staff as well as the all the deputies who are aching right now at having to perform a duty none wanted to do, nor were trained to do in the academy!

Tranquilizing animals complicated, perilous
Hours after a suicidal man unleashed dozens of his exotic animals on Muskingum County, a veterinarian drew close to a 300-pound tiger and shot it in the neck with a tranquilizer dart.

The dart’s anesthetic did nothing to subdue the big cat, which “just went crazy” before being shot to death by deputies, Sheriff Matt Lutz said.

“He sort of exploded,” recalled Dr. Barbara Wolfe, director of wildlife and conservation medicine at the Wilds animal preserve southeast of Zanesville. “He roared, he got up, and he came straight for me.”

Even in a controlled setting like the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, tranquilizing large exotic animals so they and their captors stay safe is a challenge. Cut a large number of those animals loose, leaving them free to roam the countryside on a rainy night, and their unpredictability leads to dangerous confrontations like the one that left the tiger dead, veterinary experts say.

I am SICK AND TIRED of these “social network” and “letter to the editor” “ARM CHAIR Veterinarians” saying how the situation “should have been handled!” They have as much credibility as people sitting on Wall Street, NOT WORKING…saying they DESERVE a job. However there is ONE PERSON who is more ASSINIGNE than anyone else “TV Ministry Evangelist” (and in my humble opinion bible thumping dumb ass, who uses organized religion to scare people into giving him millions), Pat Robertson.

Pat Robertson: God Let Zoo Animals Escape to Bite Gay People
Televangelist Stirs Controversy With Latest Remarks

As dozens of escaped exotic animals terrorized the town of Zanesville, Ohio, the Rev. Pat Robertson raised eyebrows today by saying that “God allowed those wild animals to escape because he wanted them to find gay people and bite them.”

Rev. Robertson, who made his remark during a regular broadcast of his 700 Club television program, said that the Book of Revelation made explicit reference to “escaped lions, tigers and bears running around Ohio biting gay people” as a prelude to the Rapture.

BACKGROUND:

Gov. John Kasich Speaks Out Over Exotic Animal Law
Animal Rights Activists across the country are outraged with Ohio’s laws when it comes to exotic animals.
Now Gov. John Kasich is coming under fire from some animal groups Wednesday night, ONN’s affiliate WEWS reported.

A ban on exotic pets expired in April and Kasich didn’t renew it. Now some groups are criticizing the governor for not doing enough fast enough…

Under that plan, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources would have been in charge of enforcing the ban, but the governor said that would have exceeded their authority.

http://www.onntv.com/content/stories/2011/10/19/story-gov.kasich-animal-law.html

From the other side of argument (but I don’t totally disagree)

Ohio under pressure to pass wildlife law
The US state of Ohio came under pressure Thursday to quickly regulate the trade in “exotic” animals after dozens of lions, bears and rare tigers freed by their suicidal owner had to be killed.

Less than 24 hours after police announced the slaughter, nearly 28,000 people had signed an online petition, posted by an Ohio resident, urging Governor John Kasich to ban the sale and ownership of wild animals.

“Ohio has some of the most lax regulation of exotic pets, and after this disaster, it is apparent that this lack of regulation has been a threat to public safety and the welfare of the animals for too long,” it said.

A spokesman for Kasich said Wednesday that work was already under way to ban the sale or importation of exotic animals in Ohio and that legislation should be tabled in about 30 days.

“We think the legislature will move very quickly on it,” spokesman Rob Nichols told AFP.

No matter what your thoughts…help those beautiful animals who were RESCUED by HEROS of the Columbus Zoo, The Wilds, and The MUSKINGUM COUNTY SHERIFF’s OFFICE!

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the Wilds are working closely with law enforcement to preserve the lives of exotic animals as the situation permits. We are advisors assisting law enforcement with containment and relocation, with some animals being transported to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium for evaluation.

Your donation will assist in defraying costs for the relocation, care and rehabilitation of the released animals in our care.

L.A. teacher loses job over anti-Semitic comments
Los Angeles school officials say a substitute teacher has lost her job after making anti-Semitic comments during an interview.

In a statement Tuesday, schools Superintendent John Deasy condemned remarks made by Patricia McAllister during a protest rally last week.

In an Oct. 12 interview with Reason.com at a Los Angeles rally, McAllister said “Zionist Jews and the Federal Reserve” need to be run out of this country.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

What Does a 400% Increase in Antidepressant Use Really Mean?

Antidepressant prescribing has risen nearly 400% since 1988, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). More than 1 in 10 Americans over age 12 now takes an antidepressant, the study finds, and yet two-thirds of those with severe symptoms of depression do not take antidepressants at all.

The new research, led by CDC epidemiologist Laura Pratt, was based on responses from about 12,000 people who took part in a national annual health survey in 2005-08. The findings were released on Wednesday as a National Center for Health Statistics Data Brief.

The findings reflect the paradoxical reality of depression treatment in the U.S. While some observers complain that antidepressants are being handed out like candy, the data show that patterns of prescription generally adhere to what is known about depression prevalence in the U.S. In fact, the research suggests that depression is consistently undertreated.

To the Con, Robin!… Burt Ward To Attend Wizard World Mid-Ohio Comic Con!

It will be like a trip to the Batcave for “Batman” fans as Burt Ward, who played “Robin” in the original television series, makes his first trip to Mid-Ohio Comic Con, October 22-23, 2011 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Ward, who was a huge hit at previous Wizard World Comic Cons, joins Adam West (Batman) as Mid-Ohio Comic Con guests from the popular program, which ran from 1966-68 and has lived on for decades in syndication.

Though an avid comic fan growing up, Ward had somehow never read an issue of Batman when he first auditioned for the role of Robin. Quickly impressing the producers, Ward was cast as Robin alongside Adam West’s Batman for an unforgettable three season run that lasted 120 episodes.

The legacy of Batman has stayed with Ward throughout his career. He has reunited with West numerous times to reprise his role as Robin, and has also written an autobiography about his Batman experiences called Boy Wonder: My Life in Tights, signed copies of which will be available at Mid-Ohio Comic Con.

MUSIC:

(From Joe Boxer) Toby Keith vs. Hip Hop! “Red Solo Cup” Controversy

If you haven’t yet heard Toby Keith’s new song, “Red Solo Cup,” it’s definitely worth a listen. The song praises the many uses of red solo cups, and is an anthem for parties. However, it has come with some controversy. Apparently hip hop artist Carlton Zeus has a song very similar to Toby Keith’s song entitled, “Sharpie Solo.” Many of his fans have spoken up, calling Toby Keith a song stealer, which influenced Carlton Zeus to make a YouTube response to his fans, where he obviously seems a little upset about the issue

BOOKS:

Get Off Your “But”: How to End Self-Sabotage and Stand Up for Yourself

In Stephenson’s powerful and practical debut, the psychotherapist and professional speaker reveals how to banish self-doubt and insecurity in a world where they may seem omnipresent. Beginning with the source of his own struggle, a rare and painful disease that causes his bones to weaken and break under minimal pressure, Stephenson offers a structured approach to a wide array of topics, including dating, weight loss, lack of motivation, friendship, finances, and goals. While his advice is encouraging and insightful, Stephenson’s text is also notable for examples, mottos and resonant personal stories of enormous obstacles and accomplishments (his work with the Clinton administration, attaining his Ph.D., opening his own private practice). Though his unwavering optimism can be daunting (bringing one’s day-to-day gripes into sharp relief), Stephenson is empowering and uplifting throughout, and should prove helpful whether facing a lifelong challenge or a more immediate battle.

MILITARY:

Official: U.S. pulling out all troops from Iraq

The United States will withdraw almost all its troops from Iraq by the end of the year, as a current agreement with Iraq dictates, a U.S. official told CNN Friday.
Only about 150 troops, a negligible force, will remain to assist in arms sales.
The United States had expected that some of the roughly 40,000 Americans in Iraq would remain there to aid in training and security.

But the two nations were unable to reach a deal on a key issue regarding legal immunity for U.S. troops, a senior U.S. military official with direct knowledge of the discussions told CNN this month.

The United States wanted to retain immunity but the Iraqis refused to agree to that, opening up the prospect of Americans being tried in Iraqi courts and subjected to Iraqi punishment.

POLITICS:

Steve Jobs told Obama in 2010: ‘You’re headed for a one-term presidency’
Jobs was critical of the Obama administration for not being business-friendly and blasted the nation’s education system as it is “crippled by union work rules.”

A highly anticipated biography about secretive Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs, written by Walter Isaacson, is slated for release October 24. The Huffington Post, however, managed to obtain a copy early and revealed some very interesting tidbits about the life of the Apple visionary — namely that, upon meeting President Barack Obama in 2010, Jobs told him, “you’re headed for a one-term presidency.”

According to HuffPo, the book states that Jobs was critical of the Obama administration for not being business-friendly and blasted the nation’s education system as it is “crippled by union work rules.”

Jobs, who insisted the president personally extend an invitation to meet with him,

told Obama that “regulations and unnecessary costs” make doing business in the United States, as opposed to China, prohibitive.

HuffPo adds:
Jobs suggested that Obama meet six or seven other CEOs who could express the needs of innovative businesses — but when White House aides added more names to the list, Jobs insisted that it was growing too big and that “he had no intention of coming.” In preparation for the dinner, Jobs exhibited his notorious attention to detail, telling venture capitalist John Doerr that the menu of shrimp, cod and lentil salad was “far too fancy” and objecting to a chocolate truffle dessert. But he was overruled by the White House, which cited the president’s fondness for cream pie.

Though Jobs was not that impressed by Obama, later telling Isaacson that his focus on the reasons that things can’t get done “infuriates” him, they kept in touch and talked by phone a few more times. Jobs even offered to help create Obama’s political ads for the 2012 campaign. “He had made the same offer in 2008, but he‘d become annoyed when Obama’s strategist David Axelrod wasn’t totally deferential,” writes Isaacson. Jobs later told the author that he wanted to do for Obama what the legendary “morning in America” ads did for Ronald Reagan

ISSUE 2:

Columbus Dispatch forced to issue a correction after printing a union member’s lie.

Doug Stern is a Cincinnati firefighter who is opposed to Issue 2’s reasonable reforms. He is so opposed, that he appeared in a “We Are Ohio” commercial. As a firefighter, Mr. Stern has my respect. But that doesn’t give him license to lie to the public about the tax-payer funded benefits he receives.

He has a problem with the part of the bill that states that government employees must pay 15% of their health insurance premiums. Why? Because he says he already pays more than that, so the law isn’t necessary.

YOU DA MAN:

After 28 years, two adult children and plenty of drama together, Kiss frontman Gene Simmons wed former Playmate Shannon Tweed in a ceremony broadcast on last night’s “Gene Simmons Family Jewels.” How did the wild rocker feel about finding himself tied down for the first time in his life? “No idea what I’d been scared about all this time,” Simmons mused while talking to his 19-year-old daughter Sophie. “[It was] this stubborn guy thing… it was really stupid.” Smiling and nodding, his daughter simply said, “Yup.”

Simmons’ realization that the woman he’s spent 28 years with is, in fact, “The One” (i.e., life partner, not to be confused with Keanu Reeves’ character in “The Matrix”) was reflected in the no-nonsense, self-skewering wedding vows he wrote. “I always thought I was strong. You made me realize how arrogant, selfish and weak I was,” he admitted. “I’ve never said ‘I love you’ to anybody, but I love you, Shannon Tweed. With all my heart, for the rest of my life.”

Atlanta woman wrongly imprisoned for 53 days because of name mix-up
An Atlanta woman says she was mistakenly imprisoned for 53 days because police confused her for someone else with the same first name.

Teresa Culpepper says she called police to report that her truck had been stolen in August. But when they showed up at her home, they arrested her for aggravated assault committed by another Teresa.

“All she has is the same first name. The only descriptions that match are ‘Teresa’ and ‘black female,'” Culpepper’s attorney, Ashleigh Merchant told The Lookout. Culpepper, who is 47, didn’t have the same address, birth date, height, or weight as the Teresa who was supposed to be arrested.

Merchant says Culpepper, who was legitimately convicted of a misdemeanor in the 90s but otherwise has no criminal record, lives in a rough neighborhood where police are frequently on patrol. She and her family were unable to post the $12,000 bond to get her out of jail, so she wasn’t released until her public defender found the victim of the assault and brought him to the court to say Culpepper was not the “Teresa” he had accused.

Why a personal trainer is making himself obese… on purpose

A fit guy who is deliberately making himself fat.

Since May, Drew Manning has gained about 70 pounds on purpose. And he’s not done yet.

Drew is a personal trainer and has always been the “fit guy.” He’s now on a journey he calls Fit 2 Fat 2 Fit where he spends six months (he has about 4 weeks left) eating  unhealthy food and not exercising, then he will take six more months to get fit again. Why? To experience for himself what it’s like to be overweight, how tough it is to lose weight, and ultimately show others how to get fit. But this is solo extreme

Ride a Bull, Run 26, even get Footloose…just don’t “Occupy” space!

GREETINGS FROM THE HOME OFFICE in Dublin Ohio. Due to scheduling issues I will not be in Vegas this weekend, rockin’ with Good Charlotte, but will be onsite to hang out with 17,000+ “Rock Stars” on Sunday getting their “Footloose” on for the Columbus Nationwide Marathon. Also gives me a chance to hang out with the Billy Bad A**es of the Pro Bull Riders Tour at The Cooper Tire Invitational. (I have passes for Friday if anyone wants-text me).

http://www.pbrnow.com/competition/bfts/eventload.cfm?id=3230

THE PBR events always remind me of this song, and well…how I try and live my life!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yyri5lL8BWo

But usually it ends like this…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAcstCYcZzQ&ob=av2e

I am excited for this weekend, not JUST because of the local events (also included a wedding, and bar event handled by my crews!), but also because of an event that originally changed my life 27 years ago.

At a very young (yes VERY YOUNG-I am a lot younger than I look?), I was introduced to a movie that hit home. It was full of cool kids stuck in a small town, very isolated, and wanted to have a good time even though the “church” and the “blue hairs” held them down. The characters were made up of geeks, outcasts, red necks, and yes the “lil guy” outsider with the cool hair that challenged the establishment-you can guess which one I related to (I STILL HAVE THE SKINNY TIE I BOUGHT AFTER I SAW THAT MOVIE, but not the cool hair).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=AcpaQswMh6w

Just like 27 years ago, ‘Footloose’ comes to the BIG SCREEN, and a new generation will be opened to a class of young people stuck in small towns…this time though instead of a group of “no names” the cast has Julianne Hough, and a talented cast of members of “Glee” and “Professional Dancers.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtjI6OHVk00

I actually am not only excited about this movie, but also to see Julianne on the big screen. Yes she is HOT, but not because of that. Yes she has a decent voice-not due to that. Yes she was in ‘Burlesque,’ and ‘Harry Potter’ and yes she is an amazing dancer (youngest to win on Dancing with The Stars-with Apolo Ohno)…but she is one of the SWEETEST YOUNG LADIES I have been around or even worked with.

A few years ago I did an event with her in Nashville at Cadillac Ranch. It was an All Star “Guilty Pleasures Party” where all artists covered a 60-90’s pop song (Lil Big Town, LoCash Cowboys, Lady A, Glorianna, and others also performed).

I got “sicker than a dog” –I MEAN REALLY SICK!!! and she allowed to use her dressing room/bathroom, I guarantee she did not use it after me. I mean how many “headliners” or “stars” would have allowed someone they don’t know to use something of theirs? She is talented and sweet. Worth seeing this movie for that alone, even if you are one of the folks hell bent that the original HAS to be better!

The original starred a “young up and comer” that few had heard of in Kevin Bacon (I think the game was only 3 degrees of Kevin Bacon, as opposed to the 7 degrees now). The Remake not follows the original exactly (except the “chicken race” is with buses instead of tractors).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mA4W1Ayd1jE

Blake Shelton even does a good job with the remake of the title track “Footloose” (I maybe even like more than the original)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mzpuUzLKx4

Another one from the movie…and you wonder why I like LIVE Country Music? (see if you can spot me in the background)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZA_yZ75kkQ

My MOM took me to see the original way back then (actually 6 times between the theater and the drive in), these were some great memories of time with her, and well…the characters formed my High School Years (I am sure I have outgrown the rebellious redneck characteristics?). Even though my mom and I both enjoyed the movie, while I am excited about this second coming, she is UPSET that they have remade this movie. My mom had kinda a good point, “those are my memories, that was my moment with my oldest son.” Well when she puts it like that, I kinda see her point.

I usually agree with keeping remakes to a minimum (or not at all-PLEASE no ‘Top Gun’ remake!). But this movie can rekindle the feelings that I had and many also had at that time (and since)  that were life forming.

This movie has been enjoyed by 3 generations since it exploded onto the big screen and formed pop culture in 1984 (still today), even if my good friend Ginny Andrews STILL thinks her ‘Dirty Dancing’ is better.

OK, I can kinda get those that didn’t like the original, and those who don’t want it to be remade due to memories…BUT our memories are our own. Some memories are good, some are bad…some good buried in some very negative years or moments, others are one bad memories encompassed by a few moments of happiness. Either way, don’t let something take away YOUR MEMORIES, don’t let a film on the big screen, or even something else tarnish your good memories with a bad one…we all have our own memories, and we don’t need them influenced or… “remade.”

Have a great weekend, go see ‘Footloose’ with your own kids, your friends you originally saw it with, OR any movie, or DO ANYTHING! Just go do something with someone else so there doesn’t have to be a remake. Go out this weekend, run 13 or 26 miles, ride a “Pro Bull” or anything that will help you “Cut Footloose” and JUST DANCE!!!!

Feeling down, feelin’ depressed? Those times are over…there was a time for that, that time is over!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYaHlwSaI5c

There are others that focus on the “oh woe is me,” and focusing on the negative…instead of moving on and WORKING for what they want, these people are sitting down, and using WORKING CITIZENS tax dollars (with city sanitations, police over time, etc), to HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THEY ARE PROTESTING WHILE THEY SIT IN A STREET-instead of working!

“They” say it is a revolution and “cannot be stopped” by Police or Government. Well…I am a “Capitalist” who is working my a** off to make it. Protest on my front porch like you are in NYC, we will see how quickly you are stopped!

Oh, OCCUPY it is a “Peaceful Movement” Huh?

Violence Breaks Out During ‘Occupy Wall Street’ March Toward New York Stock Exchange

A New York City police officer shoves a demonstrator affiliated with the Occupy Wall Street protests as they march through the streets in the Wall St. area, Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 in New York.

Just a few hours after protesters learned they’d be able to stay in Zuccotti Park indefinitely, violence broke out as a group marched away from it.
Protesters, apparently jubilant over being able to stay in the park after their furious cleanup efforts, took their brooms, flags and signs and started fanning out at around 7:30 a.m.

1010 WINS’ Steve Sandberg reported the protesters were saying things to the effect that now that they’d cleaned up the park, they were going to clean up Wall Street.

A group of protesters headed south on Broadway toward the New York Stock Exchange, carrying their brooms. Police were taken off-guard, Sandberg reported. The group swelled quickly and wound up in a confrontation with police as they tried to gain access to Wall Street. The standoff occurred near Bowling Green as they turned left on Beaver Street.

Don’t ‘Occupy Wall Street,’ Start a Small Business
It’s America’s faux-revolutionary movement: Occupy Wall Street. I’ve been looking at interviews with Occupy participants lately, and it struck me that most of those involved are unemployed — which makes sense, as they’ve got the time to come out for protests. Complaints run the gamut from bad mortgage-lending policies to high CEO salaries to risky hedge-fund bets.
Meanwhile, some of the unemployed are going in a more productive direction — one that might actually help America get back on its feet.
They’re starting businesses.

Unlike the “Arab Spring” protests in Egypt and elsewhere by which our home-grown protest movement was inspired, Occupy Wall Street doesn’t seek to overthrow the government or oust our president. The leaderless movement has yet to stake out a single clearly defined goal. There’s a vague interest in “regaining control” of our economic and political system, but no game plan for how.

So far, Occupy Wall Street has mostly managed to negatively impact the economy by blocking sidewalks and scaring off customers for local small businesses. This isn’t really helpful.

• Facebook Poll: As a business owner, do you support Occupy Wall Street?
Protesters could make better use of their time by joining the nearly 9 percent of the laid-off who’ve taken matters into their own hands and started their own business. More small businesses distributes a smaller share of power into more hands, instead of letting it concentrate in the hands of fewer large businesses.

THIS IS TRUE, but there is a message being missed, Especially at the 2:13 mark!

FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES (MUST READ):

Meet the Occupants
The organizers of Occupy Wall Street hoped for a turnout of 90,000 when protests began on September 17. Only a few hundred activists showed up, but those who did have been a hardy bunch. They’re still camped in the open air in Zuccotti Park (near the WTC site)—and just got some big labor groups to promise to join their cause. We polled 100 protesters who are in it for the long haul.

I want to thank Ben & Jerry’s…by their backing, and support of the Occupy Movement, I am no longer supporting their fine tasting products. With that said…I have lost an additional 5 pounds this week-just by not eating their amazing tasting, but very unappetizing social views on work ethic!

We, the Ben & Jerry’s Board of Directors, compelled by our personal convictions and our Company’s mission and values, wish to express our deepest admiration to all of you who have initiated the non-violent Occupy Wall Street Movement and to those around the country who have joined in solidarity. The issues raised are of fundamental importance to all of us. These include:
* The inequity that exists between classes in our country is simply immoral.
* We are in an unemployment crisis. Almost 14 million people are unemployed. Nearly 20% of African American           men are unemployed. Over 25% of our nation’s youth are unemployed.
* Many workers who have jobs have to work 2 or 3 of them just to scrape by.
* Higher education is almost impossible to obtain without going deeply in debt.
* Corporations are permitted to spend unlimited resources to influence elections while stockpiling a trillion dollars rather than hiring people.

We know the media will either ignore you or frame the issue as to who may be getting pepper sprayed rather than addressing the despair and hardships borne by so many, or accurately conveying what this movement is about. All this goes on while corporate profits continue to soar and millionaires whine about paying a bit more in taxes. And we have not even mentioned the environment.

We know that words are relatively easy but we wanted to act quickly to demonstrate our support. As a board and as a company we have actively been involved with these issues for years but your efforts have put them out front in a way we have not been able to do. We have provided support to citizens’ efforts to rein in corporate money in politics, we pay a livable wage to our employees, we directly support family farms and we are working to source fairly traded ingredients for all our products. But we realize that Occupy Wall Street is calling for systemic change. We support this call to action and are honored to join you in this call to take back our nation and democracy.

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

MORAL :
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred – Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries – Most never
happens.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less from people but more from God.

ENTERTAINMENT:

The Original ‘Footloose’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

The original ‘Footloose’ (1984) was such a huge pop culture sensation that it turned several lesser-known performers into stars — some of whom are still famous today.

Where’d the cast and crew of ‘Footloose’ go after the film earned $80 million at the domestic box office? Here is Moviefone’s guide to what became of the ‘Footloose’ players, both those who danced their way into Hollywood immortality and those who struggled to stay in step.

Kevin Bacon
Kevin Bacon: Bacon’s film debut was as a snotty freshman in 1978’s ‘Animal House,’ but he didn’t really get noticed until he played reckless rich kid Fenwick in ‘Diner’ (1982). That led to his lead role in ‘Footloose’ as Ren McCormick, the big-city teen who persuades a Bible Belt town to kick off its Sunday shoes and lift a ban on dancing. Since then, Bacon’s never been far from the spotlight. In the past 27 years, he’s made more than 50 big-screen features — notably, ‘A Few Good Men,’ ‘Murder in the First,’ ‘Apollo 13,’ ‘Wild Things,’ ‘Mystic River,’ ‘The Woodsman,’ and 2011’s ‘X-Men: First Class,’ in which he played mutant supervillain Sebastian Shaw. He’s also made a handful of TV movies, including ‘Lemon Sky’ (where he met Kyra Sedgwick, his wife since 1988) and ‘Taking Chance.’ He’s been so ubiquitous that he inspired the trivia game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, based on the notion that he’s worked with seemingly everyone in film and in every genre of movies. One thing the 53-year-old hasn’t done much of on screen since ‘Footloose’ is dance, though he demonstrated in a 2002 episode of ‘Will & Grace’ (guest-starring as himself) that he still knows Ren’s moves.

Lori Singer
Lori Singer: Before she landed the role of rebellious Ariel, Singer was a Juilliard-trained cellist best known for her role as cello student Julie Miller on TV’s ‘Fame.’ ‘Footloose’ would prove to be the peak of her career. Though a couple of mainstream movies followed (‘The Falcon and the Snowman,’ ‘The Man With One Red Shoe’), Singer soon found herself co-starring in little-seen indie movies. Arguably, her biggest role of the last quarter century was in the ensemble of Robert Altman’s sprawling ‘Short Cuts’ (1993, co-starring fellow “Footloose’ hoofer Chris Penn), in which she played a suicidal cellist — a role Altman created with her in mind. Over the last 15 years or so, she seems to have spent more time on her classical music career and raising a family than on acting. In the spring of 2011, the 53-year-old resurfaced in a guest spot on TV’s ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ playing the mother of a kidnapped child. In a 2010 interview, Singer said she didn’t mind being identified primarily with ‘Footloose.’ “I’m proud to be that rebel forever,” she said. “It reminds me to carry that spirit with me.”

Chris Penn

Chris Penn grew up in show business as the son of director Leo Penn and actress Eileen Ryan and the brother of actor Sean Penn and singer Michael Penn. After appearing in small roles in such acclaimed films as ‘Rumble Fish’ and ‘All the Right Moves,’ the 17-year-old landed the plum role of ‘Footloose’s Willard, the farmboy who befriends Ren and becomes his first dance pupil. Penn followed ‘Footloose’ with a lead role in teen comedy ‘The Wild Life,’ but his burly physique made him a popular character actor in tough guy roles, notably, in ‘Pale Rider’ (opposite Clint Eastwood), ‘At Close Range’ (his only filim with brother Sean), ‘Best of the Best’ (where he made use of his black-belt karate skills), ‘Reservoir Dogs,’ ‘True Romance,’ ‘Short Cuts’ (in an ensemble cast that included ‘Footloose’ co-star Lori Singer), ‘Mulholland Falls,’ and ‘Rush Hour.’ His final film was ‘The Darwin Awards,’ which premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival one day after Penn was found dead in his apartment. The 40-year-old had long struggled with drug use, obesity and heart disease, which was ruled the official cause of his death. In the 22 years since ‘Footloose,’ he’d scarcely gotten a chance to dance again, save in Jay-Z’s 1998 video for ‘Can I Get a…’, in which he played a dancing bartender.

John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest
John Lithgow: John Lithgow was already a Tony-winning Broadway actor (for 1973’s ‘The Changing Room’) and a two-time Academy Award nominee (for his roles in ‘The World According to Garp’ and ‘Terms of Endearment’) when he was cast in ‘Footloose’ as Rev. Shaw Moore, father to wild child Ariel and the religious leader behind his small town’s ban on dancing. Playing his wife Vi was Dianne Wiest, with whom he’d co-starred on stage in Christopher Durang’s ‘Beyond Therapy.’ After ‘Footloose,’ Lithgow became a frequent movie villain in such films as ‘Raising Cain,’ ‘Ricochet,’ ‘Cliffhanger,’ Broadway’s ‘The Sweet Smell of Success’ (for which he won his second Tony in 2002) and TV’s ‘Dexter,’ where he won an Emmy for playing the Trinity Killer in 2009. But Lithgow also has a comic, even goofy side that he showed most famously as pompous alien Dick Solomon on long-running sitcom ‘3rd Rock From the Sun’) but also in movies (‘Buckaroo Banzai,’ ‘Harry and the Hendersons,’ ‘Shrek’), stage (his Tony-nominated performance in ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’) and the many books and records he’s made for children. Lithgow has been married twice, to Jean Taynton (1966 to 1980) and to Mary Yeager (since 1981). The 65-year-old actor’s most recent movie role was as James Franco’s Alzheimer’s-afflicted father in 2011’s ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes.’

Dianne Wiest: In the early 1980s, Dianne Wiest was a veteran stage actress who had co-starred with James Earl Jones in ‘Othello’ and John Lithgow in Christopher Durang’s comedy ‘Beyond Therapy.’ Her first big break onscreen was ‘Footloose,’ where she played Vi Moore, the wise and compassionate wife of the preacher played by her former stage co-star Lithgow. After ‘Footloose,’ Wiest specialized in playing put-upon moms trying to maintain an air of cheerfulness in such movies as ‘The Lost Boys,’ ‘Parenthood’ (for which she earned an Oscar nomination), ‘Edward Scissorhands,’ ‘The Birdcage’ and ‘Rabbit Hole.’ She played against type in the five movies she did with Woody Allen, winning Best Supporting Actress Oscars for two of them, playing a scattered caterer-turned-playwright in ‘Hannah and Her Sisters’ (1986) and a grand stage diva in ‘Bullets Over Broadway’ (1994). On TV, Wiest won two Emmys, for guest-starring on ‘Road to Avonlea’ (1989) and for her supporting role as Gabriel Byrne’s therapist on ‘In Treatment’ (2008). Off-screen, Wiest had a longterm relationship with legendary talent agent Sam Cohn, who died in 2009. She has never married but adopted two daughters, now grown. The 63-year-old actress reunites with ‘Parenthood’ co-star Steve Martin in the new movie ‘The Big Year,’ released on the same day as the new ‘Footloose.’

Sarah Jessica Parker
As a young Broadway and TV actress best known for co-starring in the short-lived junior-high sitcom ‘Square Pegs,’ Sarah Jessica Parker got her first big break in movies as ‘Footloose’s fun-loving Rusty. (She and Chris Penn, six months her junior, were the only ones among the movie’s four teenage leads who were actually still teenagers.) Still, her film career didn’t really take off until her flashy comic supporting turn in 1991’s ‘L.A. Story.’ She starred in romantic comedies throughout the ’90s (including ‘Honeymoon in Vegas’ and ‘Miami Rhapsody’), only to gain even greater fame on TV as the star of ‘Sex and the City,’ which ran for six years and then made a hugely successful transition into a movie franchise in 2008. Today at 46, Parker (who married fellow 1980s teen star Matthew Broderick in 1997) is as popular as ever, whether as a style icon and pitchwoman or as a Broadway and film actress. Her characters of late have been variations on ‘Sex’s’ Carrie Bradshaw, including her starring role in September 2011’s ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It.’

Kenny Loggins
In addition to playing my backyard-Throughout the ’80s, the former Loggins & Messina folkie was a one-man soundtrack factory, cranking out hit pop tunes for such smashes as ‘Caddyshack’ and ‘Top Gun.’ Most memorable of all was his theme song to ‘Footloose,’ which he co-wrote with Dean Pitchford, and which earned him an Oscar nomination. He and Pitchford also co-wrote another song for the movie, ‘I’m Free (Heaven Help the Man),’ which Loggins performed. In recent decades, as the 63-year-old has become a staple on the oldies concert circuit (including a 2005 reunion tour with Jim Messina), ‘Footloose’ probably remains his most popular tune and the only one to have spent several weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart. He’s been married twice, to Eva Ein (from 1978 to 1990) and to colon specialist Julia Cooper (from 1992 to 2004). These days, Loggins records with country trio Blue Sky Riders, with whom he also recently made some (NSFW) Funny or Die videos spoofing his ’80s soundtrack career. At the Hollywood premiere for the new ‘Footloose,’ Loggins offered lukewarm praise for Blake Shelton’s cover of the song and continued to marvel at the original film’s success. “We figured it would be lucky if it got any attention at all,” he said.

Dean Pitchford
In 1979, Dean Pitchford, then a Broadway and cabaret songwriter best known for his collaborations with Peter Allen, read a news article about Elmore City, an Oklahoma town that had just ended an 80-year ban on dancing. The story inspired Pitchford to write the screenplay that would become ‘Footloose’ five years later. In the meantime, his work with songwriter Michael Gore on the 1980 film ‘Fame’ (they co-wrote three of its tunes) led to a Best Song Oscar for the movie’s theme song. That and the Grammy recognition for his pop songwriting gave him the clout to make ‘Footloose,’ for which he also co-wrote all nine of the songs. The ‘Footloose’ soundtrack would go on to sell 17 million copies, spawn six hit singles and rule the Billboard album chart for 10 weeks. The title track and ‘Let’s Hear It for the Boy’ would earn Pitchford two more Oscar nominations. In the years that followed, Pitchford would enjoy continued success as a pop songwriter and earn one more Oscar nomination (for the song ‘After All,’ from 1989’s ‘Chances Are’). As with ‘Footloose,’ he wrote the screenplay and all the songs for the film ‘Sing,’ but the movie went nowhere. Same with his re-teaming with Gore on the Broadway musical ‘Carrie,’ a legendary flop. For years, Pitchford struggled to bring ‘Footloose’ to Broadway (he and ‘Let’s Hear It…’ co-composer Tom Snow wrote nine more songs for the stage version), an effort that finally paid off in 1988. The show ran for two years in New York and spent the next decade touring the globe. In 2007, Pitchford embarked on a new career as a children’s author, writing the novels ‘The Big 1-0’ and ‘Captain Nobody.’ The 60-year-old will publish his next book, ‘Nickel Bay Nick,’ in 2013, and next spring will see an Off-Broadway revival of ‘Carrie.’

MUSIC:

Hank Williams Offers a Rebuttal in Song

How does a country singer react after being fired from his longtime N.F.L. gig?
He sings.

The musician Hank Williams Jr., whose song was the introduction to “Monday Night Football” for 23 seasons, was dismissed last week by ESPN after he made an analogy mentioning Hitler in a comment about President Obama during an appearance on the talk show “Fox and Friends.” On Monday, he answered back.

Williams posted a remix on YouTube of his song “Keep the Change,” whose title mocks President Obama’s 2008 campaign slogan, “Change We Can Believe In.” In it, he calls the United States the United Socialist States of America and says Fox News played a “gotcha game.”

“This country’s sure as hell goin’ down the drain,” the refrain goes. “We know what we need. We know who to blame. United Socialists States of America, how do ya like that name?”

I’ll keep the U-S-A and y’all can keep the change.”

BOOK:

‘Waking the Dead: The Glory of a Heart Fully Alive’; John Eldredge-Thanx Bogan

Eldredge, who helped to redefine the Christian men’s movement with Wild at Heart, broadens his scope to offer this more general spirituality title on being “fully alive.” Such a state of total animation is achieved only when Christians can integrate all four “streams” of their lives: discipleship, counseling, healing and warfare. (This last part may surprise some readers, but Eldredge insists that awareness of spiritual warfare actually “may be the most critical” aspect of being fully alive.) Throughout, he argues that there is glory hidden in each Christian’s heart, an echo of how Christ has “ransomed and restored” every person. The goal, then, is to capture and maintain a sense of liberation from that restoration. Eldredge fans will find that he has not departed much from the formula that made Wild at Heart so successful; he culls examples from popular culture (The Perfect Storm, The Matrix, The Lord of the Rings, The Wizard of Oz) and tells vivid stories from his own experience. Despite the careful formula, the book rarely feels formulaic; it has an unguarded heart and an opinionated lucidity that may surprise readers. Eldredge is honest about the fact that life can be arduous, confusing and filled with despair, but he also affirms a deep Christian hope. Established Eldredge fans will be pleased with this new offering, and it will gather some new readers, especially women.

ISSUE 2:

Kasich ‘barn’ storming to preach Issue 2

Jim Murray, a teacher for Columbus City Schools, was among 500 people attending a pro-Issue 2 rally yesterday at a Plain City farm.

Murray, 30, a U.S. history and government teacher at West High School, said he supports state Issue 2, the fall ballot measure for an up-or-down vote on Senate Bill 5, the legislature-approved measure that curtails collective-bargaining rights for public employees. He likes the law’s provisions that institute merit pay and end the practice of conducting layoffs by seniority.

“Merit pay” and “last-in, first-out” were mentioned time and again by many of the high-ranking Republicans who spoke at the rally at Autumn Rose Farm, including Gov. John Kasich.

“The biggest thing I’m behind is getting the best teachers into the school, regardless of seniority,” said Murray, who was among the guests who filed into the dirt-floored horse barn to hear Kasich and others speak.

“I’ve seen a lot of good teachers come into the district who’ve had to leave when layoffs come. And I’ve seen it the other way, where some teachers who might not be a good fit keep their jobs because they have seniority.

Cain leads Republican field in NBC/WSJ poll By JoAnne Allen | Reuters – 12 hrs ago

Businessman Herman Cain now leads the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, while former front-runner Rick Perry has dropped to third, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released on Wednesday.

Cain, who has never held elective office, was the first choice of 27 percent of Republican voters, followed by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney at 23 percent and Perry at 16 percent, the poll found.

The Texas governor’s support fell from 38 percent in the previous poll in late August. In the earlier poll, Cain was at only 5 percent and Romney was at 23 percent.

Matter of time for Meyer, OSU to join forces

NCAA needs to ask Ohio State tough questions
Big Ten rivals reveling in the abundance of toxic headlines surrounding the Ohio State football program should take time to savor the next six weeks or so.

That’s about all the time they have left before the Buckeyes pull a very large rabbit out of the hat they’ve spent the past 10 months soiling.

It’s beyond extremely possible, bordering on a virtual certainty, that sometime around Dec. 1, OSU President E. Gordon Gee will step in front of a microphone and suddenly sound a whole lot smarter than he has in a while.

The man who in March voiced the hope that rogue coach Jim Tressel wouldn’t “dismiss me” and who Monday portrayed his scandal-laden athletic department as the “poster child for compliance” can make all that vanish like so much flatulence in the wind.

All it will take is one simple sentence: “I’m pleased to welcome Urban Meyer as the next football coach at The Ohio State University.”

Interestingly, the first performance of Script Ohio was by the University of Michigan’s marching band in 1932. According to the student newspaper, The Michigan Daily: “Probably the most effective single formation was the word ‘OHIO’ spelled out in script diagonally across the field in the double-deck Ohio stadium to the accompaniment of the O.S.U. marching song, ‘Fight the Team.’ ”

Michigan fan takes a knee to propose to Buckeye at midfield in Ohio Stadium

Johnny Wakefield’s legs shook as he strolled with his girlfriend across the Ohio Stadium turf yesterday evening, but his uneasiness had nothing to do with his loyalty to the University of Michigan.

Although the Wolverines football fan had ventured into the heart of enemy territory, Abbey Zellers had found heaven: She rabidly roots for the Buckeyes.

Walking on the field, one arm wrapped tightly around Wakefield’s waist, Zellers was giddy with excitement — if a bit nervous. As they reached the Block O at the 50-yard line, she said:

“We’ve got to get out of here. Someone is going to kick us out.”

“No, we don’t need to leave,” Wakefield assured her.

RELIGION:

Jeremiah 29:11

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

“Skeptics believe any exclusive claims to a superior knowledge of spiritual reality cannot be true. But this objection is itself a religious belief. It assumes God is unknowable, or that God is loving but not wrathful, or that God is an impersonal force rather than a person who speaks in Scripture. All of these are unprovable faith assumptions. In addition, skeptics believe they have a superior way to view things and the world would be a better place if everyone dropped the traditional religious views of God and truth and adopted theirs. Therefore, their view is also an ‘exclusive’ claim about the nature of spiritual reality.” Tim Keller, The Reason for God

GREETINGS FROM:

Stage Right of the Nationwide Plaza as we rock the “Puck Out” for the Home Opener of The Columbus Blue Jackets!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKJ8s_xKLvQ&feature=player_embedded#!

It has been a long day already (after a LONG WEEK), this morning started at 4am, with an early morning trip to the airport-no I am still here in town this weekend. I dropped my neighbors off for a vacation.

I know it is early when I look at the “World Famous Pepper Dog” and say “Good Morning,” followed by “It’s early isn’t it?”

…I get back a look that says “F*CK YOU DAD! I am going back to sleep” and for the first time ever, she did not follow me downstairs.

With Hockey Season Starting, October is in full swing-with baseball playoffs determining who the new “Mr. October” is, Political Campaigns are in the final push, and Halloween along with the shows it brings are airing on TV. I have a new favorite show (scared the pi** out of me!), American Horror Story; with Connie Britton (the hot wife from ‘Friday Night Lights,’ and from ‘Spin City’), and Dylan McDermott (I really wish he would not show his bare ass so much though). This show twists and turns and scares you on all the dips and spins. WOW!!! AHS runs on FX every Wednesday Night at 10pm

In addition to having the bajeevies scared out of me this week we had; The Yuengling release, New Facebook bi*ching, Buckeyes continued suspension, Fast & Furious Gun Scandal, Hank Williams on MNF, Unemployed kids picketing about their jobs and 401k’s, Millionaire Sur Tax, Sarah Palin (again) saying she won’t run for office, Michael Jackson Death Trial, Steve Jobs Death (along with some very poignant and funny posts), all with Nancy Grace Farting. Social Media this week has overwhelmed me…and it is not even the weekend (better up the ADHD Meds)!

It has been a Rough Week…

This week has been full of Lies from (former) friends, non pays, SLOW PAYS, and gigs lost. My favorite quote “oh sorry Matt, I guess I did have your info. I can’t pay you today though I am on my way out of the office)”-after 2 weeks behind payment, you are leaving before you take a minute to cut my check?!?!? I am glad I don’t handle myself like that…

Also my stylist (aka Stage Mom) made me get a haircut because of the way I will look on the jumbo-trons tonight. I always thought my hair made me look taller, her response “you look fat.”

So needless to say I have a haircut (and stayed on the treadmill a lil longer today). But after I got my locks chopped I noticed something…something was not right. The chick who cut my hair must have left some talcum powder in my sideburns? NOPE…I am officially going grey GOD DA*N IT!!!

But problems faced this week have solutions and because of this outlook, that does not make them problems or even a negative obstacles, it makes it all experiences!!! Well they say wisdom comes with grey hair? I’d rather be dumb and immature!!!

I am not the only one who had a rough week. Hank Williams Jr. also had kinda a rough week. I guess we no longer will be able to answer if we are “Ready for Some Football?”

Hank Williams Jr.’s Political Comments Result in Monday Night Football Suspension

October 3, 2011
Hank Williams Jr.Hank Williams Jr.’s comments about President Obama on Fox & Friends have prompted ESPN to drop him from Monday’s (Oct. 3) opening segment of its Monday Night Football telecast, USA Today reports.

During an interview earlier in the day to promote The Legend Begins, a new collection of rare and unreleased recordings by his father, the late Hank Williams Sr., Fox & Friends’ Gretchen Carlson began the interview by asking him which GOP presidential candidate he favors. After replying, “Nobody,” Williams made reference to Obama and House Speaker John Boehner’s golf game that took place in June at Andrews Air Force Base. Calling it “one of the biggest political mistakes ever,” he added, “It would be like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli leader Benjamin] Netanyahu, OK?” He also called Obama and Vice President Biden “the enemy.” In a statement, an ESPN spokesperson said, “While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize he is closely linked to our company through the opening to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result have decided to pull the open.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eF6vCv13bw&feature=player_embedded

I AM NOT saying ESPN was right or wrong! It is a private business matter and they can say and do whatever they want. My problem is the decision was based on a concept that happens all too often; the left can say what they want, and it is OK. The right says anything (in or out of context) and all Holy Hell breaks loose. Need an example? Check out these images;

Hank’s Response:

“Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme – but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me – how ludicrous that pairing was. They’re polar opposites and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the President.”

“Every time the media brings up the tea party it’s painted as racist and extremists – but there’s never a backlash – no outrage to those comparisons… Working class people are hurting – and it doesn’t seem like anybody cares. When both sides are high-fiving it on the ninth hole when everybody else is without a job – it makes a whole lot of us angry. Something has to change. The policies have to change.” – Hank Williams, Jr.

FOR ME?

I guess I may be looking deeper into the issue, maybe I am wrong? Hank went after BOTH sides of the Isle (Obama-D, Biden-D, and Boehner-R, as well as Kasich-R).

He later released a response “When both sides are high-fiving it on the ninth hole when everybody else is without a job – it makes a whole lot of us angry. Something has to change.”

BOTH SIDES/PARTIES are being targeted! When asked which GOP Front-runner he supported, his reply was “nobody.” He called Obama, and Vice President Biden, along with Boehner “the enemy” with an added description of “The Three Stooges.” Hank even threw Ohio Gov Kasich-R into the mix (yes I know, in addition to his choice of words, his math is also off!).

Now to me (and I guess my 21 years in politics and 27 years in the entertainment worlds means I know nothing) he is stating (in his own unique “Hank Done it this way” tone) he is fed up with all sides (note: criticizing four politicians 2 R’s and 2 D’s). He also states he is supporting Herman Cain, and not Palin, as he did in the last cycle. He enforces this comment with “the whole country is sick of ’em,” later going on to quote the USA today poll with a large number of Americans polled wanting Congress (MADE UP OF D’s, R’s, and Indy’s) voted out.

Hank quoted a number of 89% of Americans believe Congress should be replaced (it is actually 76% of those polled in the USA Gallop Poll August 8, 2011, but who’s counting?).

Again Hank MAY NOT be a mathematician!

I guess my question is other than calling out Obama for NOT supporting our friends in Israel (again in his own “Hank Done it This Way” tone)-by comparing him to the “most hated man the world has ever known,” how is he going after one side of the isle?

It sounds to me (again what do I know since I only have worked political campaigns, been involved with strategy, and tour all over this great country playing music on stages-yes with Hank, but with The Dixie Chicks, and Tim McGraw as well {later being strong D’s}) like ‘Ole Hank is calling ALL OUR Elected Officials (R’s, D’s, and I’s) out with “the thought of the Leaders of both Parties Jukin and High Fiven on a Golf course, while so many Families are Struggling to get by.”

I do not believe it is an attack BY a member of what some call a “racist, elitist political party,” nor is it an attack ON a party that “stereotypically” plays the “victim.” It was an attack on the elected officials of THIS GREAT COUNTRY, by a man who is passionate and made him “Boil over and make a Dumb statement.”

I guess what comes from this is…as R’s (WE) should not pump our chest so loudly, and D’s…quit being victims and trying to find fault in any dumb obnoxious passion fueled statement. The same type of statement the Dixie Chicks made in the past , and the same as statements previously displayed on multiple occasions by Keith Oberman (former ESPN announcer who left the network on his own accord, and was FIRED by MSNBC {and the Yankees}) both for their own poor choice of words. I guess since ‘Ole Hank is not supporting her, even Sarah Palin for her own poor choice of words falls into this category of passion filled response. ALL HOWEVER BELIEVED what they said at the time, and all were punished in the court of public opinion by one group or the other.

…there has been a lot of correlation between Hank’s comments, and Natalie from The Dixie Chicks statement (I guess the reason is, they are both in Country Music?). Natalie called the president (G.W. Bush) a “Dumb A**” and said she was “embarrassed to be an American,” and continued to “defend” her actions. Hank however released a statement stating “Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme – but it was to make a point….I have always respected the office of the President.”

This week, many have asked what I think?

Hank is a passionate man, who cares for this country. He associated the POTUS with another person who turned against the Jewish peoples. I don’t agree with the terms or tones used, however I do agree with him on some levels, and in terms of the controversy association between Natalie of The Dixie Chicks…I at least respect him more for his response.

AS FOR ALL OF US? THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?!?!? Get some thicker skin! Even Tony Romo is able to play with some additional padding! I hope this fumble is overruled in replays, and we can again answer the question “Are you Ready for some Football!?!?!” If not, well I have a funny feelin’ the Country Boy Can Survive…

(since Hank has now pulled himself from ESPN and Monday Night Football as of Thursday the above is outdated. I wrote for a piece earlier in the week, liked it…so I kept it. To follow up, by HWJ “pulling” himself and his award winning “Monday Night Football Theme” after the fact in a press release-he is not only NOT a good mathematician, but also REALLY BAD AT P.R.)

BUT WE BACK ON SUBJECT underling what I was getting at (and I believe Hanks Freudian statement) as a country WE MUST STAND BEHIND ISRAEL, if not for Religious purposes, or even for what is right…we need to stand by our ONLY ALLY in The Middle East!!!

‎”For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.” ~Isaiah 62:1

I “THINK” I get it, I just wish the American People would as well…really hoping my Jewish friends see through the current “Hope & Change” president, and see he is NOT helping them here, THIS COUNTRY’s Stability in the Middle East, or Their Homeland (by encouraging Palestinian Occupation in Israel–Despite the 63% of Americans side with Israel { http://www.dnaindia.com/world/report_majority-of-americans-want-barack-obama-to-back-israel_1595911}).

THIS COUNTRY NEEDS to back U.S. Defense Sec. Leon Panetta as he works with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to secure the Israeli boarders and assist with maintaining Military Dominance in the region.

Another person who “get’s it” is my buddy Kevin. He wrote this to Ohio Senator Sherrod Browns Office (OH-D)

October 5,

2011

Dear Friends,

It’s time to end the partisan bickering and focus on jobs. Too many middle-class Ohioans are struggling to find work, send a child to college, or keep up with their mortgage.

Last month, the President announced his jobs plan and traveled to Ohio to outline the American Jobs Act.

Now that he’s announced his plan, I want to hear your thoughts and ideas.

I believe we can build on Ohio’s spirit of innovation and manufacturing heritage to create jobs in clean energy, biotech, and aerospace. But we need to stop giving tax breaks to corporations that ship jobs overseas and instead ensure a level playing field for Ohio workers and Ohio manufacturers.

When we stood up to China and enforced trade laws to prevent a flood of cheap imports that undermine Ohio-made products, we saw new jobs in the Mahoning Valley and Northwest Ohio. Helped by federal investments in clean energy, Toledo is now second in the nation in solar panel jobs. By encouraging our state’s aerospace industry, manufacturers in Dayton and Cincinnati have new business opportunities. And by investing in workforce development, Northeast Ohio’s biosciences industry continues to grow.

I respond:

Dear Senator Brown:

If you don’t give tax breaks to corporations, they will move overseas. American business tax rates are too high. Doing business competitively is already nearly impossible due to unions, EPA bull crap, lawyers, litigation, etc. all imposed /supported by Washington. Americans are fed up; we want less government, get the heck out of the way. Send us the bill for the transgressions and lack of oversight of the previous generations, we will pay it, but only if Washington

stops spending on stupid jobs bills, Obama care, and all the other crap the corrupt “leaders” can dream up. My generation has been labeled with stupid names like Genx, Geny, Gen911. That’s all crap. We are carrying the burden of generations of selfish politicians and selfish American through direct taxes and “hidden taxes”.

All of this “Great Recession,” started with one thing.  Much American wealth was stored in peoples home values. Washington stupidly wanted to create a false “Equality” by letting unqualified people mortgage houses they could not possibly afford. Washington  did this by setting the lending rules at Fannie and Freddie (puppet Govt.institutions) so low that anyone’s pet fish could build a mansion. As a result, an abundance of poor mortgages were underwritten. Don’t blame the mortgage companies, banks, etc. They were simply selling mortgages because they could (Fannieand Freddie had created a fire sale) and in the end the first round of losers were the financial institutions and Pension Funds who had the worst oversight (the ones who held the mortgage bonds when the bottom dropped out). But they were not the biggest losers.

Americans who actually worked and could afford their houses were the losers. The reason? Simple. Supply and Demand. Too many damn houses were built, thereby devaluing everyone’s house because only 50 percent of the mortgages should have been written in the first place. So what are we left with? Bankrupt people who should never have had houses in the first place, and the remaining folks who could afford their mortgages but stuck in underwater / severely devalued houses because of the supply side issues caused by Washington; this is a hidden tax delivered through a miserable attempt to redistribute wealth. As a result, until everyone who actually works pays off ~70% percent of their original mortgage value (what will be required to get them back to a normal loan to value) this country is going to be stuck in this rut. Americans were robbed by Washington through Fannie and Freddie and most of them don’t even know it. I for one know it, I was foolish and did not foresee this nightmare Washington had created until it was too late.

How might you fix this? Quit spending the damn money on bullshit jobs bills and focus on fixing the supply side issue you created. Tear down the houses we don’t need. If you INSIST on spending your way out of this problem, tear down the houses that no one lives in, rip out the unmanageable excess infrastructure. Rebalance the supply side issue.  Problem solved. Americans get (some of) their wealth back, they get their leverage back, they spend more, and jobs are created.  (Or just wait 15 years if you want, but you better tell people the truth).  You might say you would be creating another false bubble.  Not so.  Houses can’t be built for what they are being sold for today. They can’t even be built for what they were sold for before this recession.  Material prices have risen because there is a significant amount of inflation due to the devaluation of the dollar, another hidden tax, caused by the last two stupid stimulous bills).  Next time you will remember not to let your cronies at Fannie and Freddie give houses to pet fish.   You will have to also remember to lower corporate tax rates, stop spending, shut down the EPA, and the lawyers, etc. if you want the companies that actually employ people to come back.

The burden that has been laid on my generation is big.  If you fix this now, and THEN we all pay our share, we all will pay it forward together, unlike the selfish generations before us.

Kevin

P.S.  For the record, clean energy, as you discussed in your letter, is an industry funded by government stimulous, regulations and backed by junk science, please don’t try to fool more people with more government “good ideas,” we know how that last one worked out for you.  The rest of the world is going to ignore this clean energy fad and kick our butts with low clost “dirty” energy.  I’m not suggesting we dump our sewage in the ocean like the Chinese, but we have to allow Coal and Nuclear power to exist.  Washington has basically shut these industries down.

Of course why would you want your constituents to be able to contact you?

There has also been a lot of debate over The “Occupation of Wall Street”

Oh those crazy kids, I guess ‘cause Bush is not in office, they need something to protest? I wonder 1.) Who held a gun to anyone’s head and told them to invest? (I use cash only, and have steered clear of all 401k’s, and all other finances that rely on someone else) 2.) Looking at their ages, and college majors (Environmental Health?) do they even have any knowledge on the situation, and DO THEY EVEN HAVE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE SPRAY PAINT ON THE SIGNS invested in the issue!?!?

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/04/us/anti-wall-street-protests-spread-to-other-cities.html?_r=1

Those protesting on Wall Street are a JOKE! The majority just want something to do, and to feel part of something.

WANT TO FEEL PART OF SOMETHING?!?!? Get a job! Then you won’t have all the free time to make banners and flags with “nifty” slogans…maybe not even have enough time to hang out in the street IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY WHEN YOU SHOULD BE WORKING-OR LOOKING FOR A JOB!

I liked this quote from the New York Times:

The New York Times quoted one OWS participant explaining to a nearby newcomer: “It doesn’t matter what you’re protesting. Just protest.”

Some other great lines

Ann Coulter
Ann: “I am not the first to note the vast differences between the Wall Street protesters and the tea partiers. To name three: The tea partiers have jobs, showers and a point. No one knows what the Wall Street protesters want — as is typical of mobs. They say they want Obama re-elected, but claim to hate ‘Wall Street.’ You know, the same Wall Street that gave its largest campaign donation in history to Obama, who, in turn, bailed out the banks and made Goldman Sachs the fourth branch of government. This would be like opposing fattening, processed foods, but cheering Michael Moore — which the protesters also did this week. But to me, the most striking difference between the tea partiers and the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ crowd — besides the smell of patchouli — is how liberal protesters must claim their every gathering is historic and heroic.”

My Buddy

Pat: Kudos to everyone who is occupying Wall St. or anywhere else. As you complain about unemployment and having to pay back student loans (which almost everyone who went to college before has had to do) someone else is applying for a job you could’ve had but you decided that acting like you live in Greece or France was a better option. That person getting the job thanks you. Me on the other hand…

I wish all the ‘kids’ participating in #occupywallstreet would take their backpacking trip through Europe and stay there.#GROWTHEFUP

SO INSTEAD of taking up “dead space” in a “street” or overly utilizing your “creativity you learned in art class.” (and do we really need to keep arts in the schools?-but that is another topic for another time!). Use your voice of the ballot, not taking time off a job you supposedly have to scream at someone who is doing a THEIR JOB (maybe the protesters should try it?).

But if you want to vote absentee this November, here is assistance with that

http://betterohio.org/earlyvote?msource=JK100411EM1

I have gotten into it with a lot of folks over policy, and politics (shocker right?), as well as been hosed by a few friends, and even clients who owe me (what is becoming) a great deal of monies this week.

In many cases I went to attack mode, but before I could act, was reminded not to from the following lesson:

Hurt is something you can’t take it back.

Take a minute and write down something on a piece of paper, a post it note or whatever. Maybe, write something negative you wanted to say to someone, or what someone has said to you.

Now crumble it up, throw it, tear it-whatever you need to do for 15 seconds.

Done…? Ok, now put it back exactly how it was. Unfold, fix, tear, clean off whatever stains are now on it (really don’t want to know what stains those are from). Put it back exactly how it was.

Go on…

Finished yet?

Does it look the same as when you first started?

NO! It does not! And that is the same for our words and our actions…we can say sorry, we can try and repair, we can try and take back to “way it was,” but what has been done, no matter how hard we try…we can never be put back “just the way it was.”

Remember no matter how bad it sucks, no matter how much you want to get even…there may be a day (or even in the next few minutes) you will want to take back what you said.

It ain’t always easy, BUT THERE IS A REASON for all the people and experiences we encounter. Don’t lash out at them (without thinking first)

“God doesn’t give you the people you want; he gives you the people you to help you, to hurt you, to leave you, to love you, and to make you the person you were meant to be.”

I may not have it all, I may not be financially rich, many may not agree with all of my thoughts, and I may not be able to save the world. BUT…

“Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.” [Steve Jobs The Wall Street Journal, May 25, 1993]

PASSING:

Steve Jobs passed this week. I have a HUGE problem with his customer service, his cult like products, and the constant upgrading for profit.

Actually I hope the pall bearers who are carrying him don’t drop the casket like they did to me (I-Tunes still owes me $1193.16)

HOWEVER the man was a jealous and we need more people in this world such as him. The scary part is, not Apple’s future success, but Pixar (a company I LOVE) may be in jeopardy. I just hope the “I-Hops” will be ok.

Why Pixar Will Be Hit Hardest
Apple’s visionary leader Steve Jobs is gone, having Wednesday died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. While the Apple family will surely mourn the loss of its iconic genius, Jobs’ other company, Pixar, may miss him the most.    *

Pixar Animation Studios was once a division of George Lucas’ production company Lucasfilm before Apple co-founder Steve Jobs acquired the company in 1986. Under Jobs, Pixar reversed its downward spiral and revolutionized the filmmaking world, proving that computers can do anything cameras can, and that movies don’t need live action to have heart.

This was no more evident than Pixar’s first full-length feature film, Toy Story. Released in 1995, Toy Story was immediately met with rave reviews, and was the first-ever feature film made completely on computers. Nobody thought sophisticated computers could accurately pull off heartfelt storytelling about a cowboy doll and an astronaut action figure, but they did, and the world of animated films was forever changed. Toy Story became the top-grossing movie of 1995, raking in $360 million worldwide.

Some of my favorite tweets/posts/quotes

‎”Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
~ Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

“I hope Steve Jobs is like Tupac and keeps releasing new sh*t from the dead.”

Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.” [The Wall Street Journal, May 25, 1993]

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.” [Stanford commencement speech, June 2005]
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” [Stanford commencement speech, June 2005]

The government says it has identified the remains of three U.S. Army soldiers missing in action during the Vietnam War and will bury them Wednesday at Arlington National Cemetery.

The Department of Defense announced Monday that Master Sgt. Charles Newton of Canadian, Texas; Sgt. 1st Class Douglas Dahill of Lima (LEYE’-muh), Ohio; and Sgt. 1st Class Charles Prevedel of St. Louis, Mo., will be buried with military honors.

POLITICS:

Op-Ed: Taking sides on Issue 2: Retain Senate Bill 5: Dave Yost
Below is the op-ed that Auditor of State Dave Yost recently submitted to the Plain Dealer:

Issue 2, the collective-bargaining reform on the Nov. 8 ballot, is all about the math — the math of fairness and the arithmetic of affordability.
For most of Ohio’s history, there were few public-employee unions because of a lack of a legal framework. That changed in 1983, when the General Assembly gave government workers the right to organize, on top of the civil service protection they already had.

The world has changed a lot since then. For example, few in the private sector now get defined-benefit pensions — a guaranteed retirement check, no matter what happens to the stock market. Most of us now have defined-contribution plans; we get what we put in.

But government workers still get the guaranteed-check kind of pension. And in some instances, they don’t have to contribute anything; it’s all paid for by the taxpayer.

Issue 2 only requires that government workers contribute 10 percent to their retirement. That’s all. It doesn’t change that guaranteed retirement check. Issue 2 just requires government workers to have a little skin in the game. And if they already are contributing 10 percent to their pension, nothing changes.

The city of Columbus would save $41 million a year if employees had to contribute to their own, guaranteed-check pensions. That’s 500 cops and firefighters. Issue 2 will actually help to save jobs.

Or take health care. In 1983, it was common for health insurance to be a free fringe benefit. As health care costs have skyrocketed, most of us have had to cover more and more of our insurance premiums. It’s not at all rare for a private-sector worker to put up 30 percent of his or her health-insurance premium.

Issue 2 says government workers must contribute at least 15 percent to their health care coverage. This is going to destroy the middle class?
Health care costs are a huge cost to state and local governments — that is, to you. Governments have no money of their own, only the money you pay in taxes.

My office did a performance audit of Youngstown City Schools earlier this year. If school employees had to follow the lead of private-sector workers and pay just 15 percent of their health care premiums, the schools would save $1.5 million per year.

That’s 25 teachers who won’t be laid off. Issue 2 won’t cost jobs; it will save jobs.

Issue 2 comes down to the math, and it’s time to do the math. The people who work for the government largely don’t care about the math. They’re going to vote their pocketbook. That doesn’t make them bad people.
But maybe it’s time we voted our pocketbook, too.

SWAT Shoots, Kills Armed Man Robbing Donatos, CPD Says
Donatos Employee Hurt By Flying Debris

SWAT officers shoot and kill a Columbus man after they watch him rob a Northeast Side Donatos at gunpoint, CPD says.

Columbus police and ATF investigators were investigating a series of business robberies and developed information on a Columbus man who was a person of interest in the crimes.

SWAT officers began surveillance on 48-year-oldMichael A. Lloyd.
SWAT officers were doing surveillance on Lloyd Wednesday night and saw him exit his vehicle and enter the Donatos at 2769 Northland Plaza Dr.

CPD said he was wearing a mask and carrying a firearm.
Officers were not able to stop him before he entered the business but immediately surrounded the building, waiting for him to exit.

Lloyd was fatally shot when he confronted two SWAT officers as he ran from the rear of the business, CPD said.

Texas School Punishes Boy for Opposing Homosexuality

An honors student in Fort Worth, Texas, was sent to the principal’s office and punished for telling a classmate that he believes homosexuality is wrong.

Holly Pope said she was “absolutely stunned” when she received a telephone call from an assistant principal at Western Hills High School informing her that her son, Dakota Ary, had been sent to in-school suspension.

“Dakota is a very well-grounded 14-year-old,” she told Fox News Radio noting that her son is an honors student, plays on the football team and is active in his church youth group. “He’s been in church his whole life and he’s been taught to stand up for what he believes.”

And that’s what got him in trouble.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?:

A New York man came up with an unusual plan to hurt his ex-girlfriend: kill a bear, skin it, and then dress up in the carcass and attack her. The Associated Press reports that Clyde Gardner, of Malone, N.Y., planned to wear the bear hide and claws to attack his ex-girlfriend and kill her, leaving no trace of his foot or fingerprints at the scene of the crime. The woman, with whom he had a violent, on-again off-again relationship and a child, had recently thrown him out of the house again, the report said.

E. Gordon Gee is a very smart man. There’s a reason he’s the nation’s highest-paid president of a public institution.

But there are some things Gee is better off leaving alone. Like anything that has to do with the Ohio State football scandal.

A day after athletic director Gene Smith chalked up the latest NCAA violations by football players to “individual decisions … made to go off the reservation,” Gee had this to say in his annual fall address to the Ohio State faculty Tuesday night.

“We are the poster child for compliance, and whenever we discover a possible infraction, we resolve and report it to the NCAA, no matter how minor the violation. That’s what we have done here.”
